My truck was stolen last night. What’s your sob story?
It’s been found already. Looks like the lights an knives are missing but it’s not been damaged otherwise. The locks and ignition will need to be changed.
Man, that SUXXX.. hope you recover it.

I had a 5TB hard drive crash on me.
Luckily there was no data lost because everything was backed up.

Dayum! I hope it’s recovered in perfect shape and that nothing irreplaceable was in it. Lost the hunting knife I inherited from Dad in a car fire ages ago, lesson learned.

weird… i also lost a 5tb drive last week… all backed up… now i have to decide if i want to go through the painstaking warranty rma process… there was sensitive data on the drive… so im not sure how i feel about sending it out for repair or replacement….

Is there a budget way to "lo-jack" a vehicle these days? I'm talking something separate from On-Star and such so that the thief is not aware the vehicle is being tracked.
The truck was 16 years old and had 280,000 miles on it but it was still passing smog tests and running well. It’s possible I’ll get it back usable but will have to plan for the worst in the meantime. It’s hard to get a new dog pic for the avatar because every time I look at her she goes belly up. Buck was an Alpha female. We call Frances our sniveling coward. But she’s an awfully cute one.
Over here they steal old trucks to ram them into ATM’s in gas stations to steal them, check for ATM smash and grab close to you, you just might find it, hope you reported it right away to avoid any misunderstandings with the police just in case…

one of the guys i grew up with had his pontiac yellow bird stolen when we were in high school. 20 years later, 2 guys were arrested at an inspection station trying to take the car thru. they changed the vin plates but it was obvious they did so. when we showed up at impound to check out the car, it was in better shape than it was when it was stolen…oh, wait. that had a happy ending. my truck was broken into while it was at the shop waiting to be repaired for a broken driveshaft. they stole my tools, stereo, monitor, amps and a headlamp, which they probably were using so they could see what they were stealing. my ipod was in there, and they even stole my iphone charge and cable, and all my disco cd’s

Combining both, a while back we had our well aged Toyota 4wd Tercel stolen with 30 years worth of camping gear and the complete record notebooks of a multi-year40-acre forest fire restoration project (personal hobby site).
Fortunately I’d scanned all the notebook pages to back them up to multiple hard drives. Backing up paper — it’s a concept worth considering.
If anyone ever comes across a black 4D cell M@g with four old aqua green Luxeons modded in it, that’s mine.
I bought the ’99 truck used in ’01 with 30k mi on it pre dented and pre keyed. They didn’t get much in the way of tools but did get 3 knives(a juice S2 gift,a BLF gaw Buck pocket knife, and an SRM I got as a thank you for helping a fellow BLF’er) along with my new Bare A6, BLF EE X6, BLF Mini 01, and my 14650
Micromag. I don’t normally keep that many lights in it but had recently visited another BLF’er and hadn’t decided which to leave at home. I have another BLF EE X6 still in the box and a TF mini 01 with a 219 in it and I’ll throw my modded Solitaire in the loaner car for now. I have too much to do to waste time or emotional energy on the perps but the police said it’s likely still in the area so who knows? Won’t be getting any of the stuff in it back in any case.

I had my old 1980 GM Custom Deluxe jacked once. Three on the Tree, Straight Six, no power steering, Am radio with one speaker. You know the kind, solid good old (Green) truck.
They got all of my tires that were new with decent rims. They got my Bow and Arrows from behind the seat. They took the stereo, amp, equalizer and speakers along with a big box of cassettes, including about 50 bootlegs from Dead Concerts I had gone to. They even took the glass out of the sunroof that I had just put in a week before!!
But I got it back, slapped in a new battery (they stole that too) and it fired right up, so there was that anyway. I drove it for a long time after that and then sold it to a local farmer who used it around the farm for a couple decades. Can’t keep a good truck down.
