Photobucket was my go to. Anyone seen the "new interface"? It's totally useless. I can't even use it, as it is not designed for older browsers.
I have hundreds of photos there. If I drop them, I loose every one and all my threads will be blank unless I want to go to some other photo crap storage place, transfer all the photos and go back thru a hundred threads or more, with hundreds of photos and do it all again! Well, you can bet I am not going to do that, so bye, bye to all the photos in all the threads, when my service whit them runs out, the photos are gone. This is such a load of crap! They dropped the contract they had and went with a much cheaper contract, what a farce. People are leaving in droves and now they will force themselves into internet oblivion.
There is nothing that lasts and especially on the internet. Nowhere where you could host photos for years, as something will change, where you can't use it without a hassle, or they will just disappear.
I’m a photographer and use Photoshelter, which is outstanding but probably overkill for most people. I’ve never used Photobucket but it seems awful. Look through any semi-old thread on any message board anywhere and you see a bunch of broken image links pointing to Photobucket.
OL, I just looked it up and the basic thing on photobucket is only 2.99. I will gladly pay to keep your account open, I would hate to see this great resource disappear.
Fortunately, I've been able to muddle through and still use it, but I've always hated navigating Photobucket and this update fixed nothing, and made it more complicated...
I’m stuck using my iPhone camera because I can no longer upload images from my laptop nor can I access them from it to create posts. I’m lazy so I’ll continue using them until no longer possible, then poof!
@scaru - I won't drop it for a while and who knows what the future holds. Anyhow, I liked the old format, it was simple enough and I do not edit anything online. I do it on the computer first and just upload for storage. I have photobucket, and two other places, but the thought of transferring everything over is just impossible. I really have no choice but to keep it, but it just pisses me off to no end. The new interface just locks up my computer, because it tries to view every single photo you have at once and that's just foolish. Not necessary at all. The old way worked and I even liked it. You could just mouse over a photo and get the code, now there are steps to do it and it's all java script written by someone who probably does not even speak the language.
It's just about the icing on the cake, from the week-end I had, so it's 99% venting, sorry guys.
Well, I don’t dislike actual Photobucket, you just need to get used to it. But I’ve started to use it about some months ago and with directly with that “new interface”, so I don’t know what interface had PB before :shy:
As for broken links, etc. - PB links include album, pic name and other stuff in it, so if you just move it to another album… you will screw that pic in whatever place you’ve used it (i.e. forum, web, etc.) That’s why I try to create all necessary albums, folders, etc. before uploading.
Anyway, I hope they (PB) will make some sort of alternative interface for people like you
I went through this with Photobucket a few years ago (what is it with their UI updates?). :~ Went to Picasa and haven’t looked back. Flickr and Imgur are both worth a mention too.
I just logged in to have a look. I’m a little surprised to see my old pics are still there! Looks like Photobucket are trying to play catch up with rivals offering a cleaner UI.
I must be very old, LOL. If that’s cleaner, I am Methuselah. More steps to do anything and all kinds of sub menus not needed. The old interface was OK, but this “storybook” interface is for the birds. Or maybe the new birds.
I suppose by cleaner I mean uncluttered. Compared to some of their older UI’ it’s a lot less messy looking, but it also takes hundreds of clicks to accomplish anything. >.< Maybe it’s not so bad on a tablet.
Amazon S3 is extremely cost effective because you do not pay by the month, you pay by how much storage and transfer bandwidth you use up, and you can host photos from your S3 account via html.
imgur is finicky as well. Maybe not from a end user standpoint but for linking it’s kinda wonky.
I too have issues with photobucket. Last I checked though is that you can tell it not to use the new interface. I actually started using the new interface because for whatever reason something in my photo album(and their website code) made it align things off screen so I couldn’t access them properly. It didn’t slow me down but was a nuance.
But yes, unless photobucket made the change permanat you can disable the new interface and go back to the old interface.
