Fantasic work. The 2x18650 looks very similar to the 5Mega MagFire produced some time ago.

Phenomenal! !! With an adapter like that made for Solarforce bodies the possibilities are nearly endless.

As for a name I'd suggest Lil' Maggie or just Maggie. ;)

Does it use a p60 or c8 pill or something custom?

Thanks again for the kind words, guys! I had to look up the FM Magfire on the other side; that guy does crazy work with Mag stuff, for sure.

The adaptor was sized around a Mag deep LED reflector with the cam removed, and a tall mule-style P60 pill. I should have some more pics later today with the pill details.

Nice job C-X! I like that design and the machining on the copper pill is sweet!

Here is what I came up with sometime ago. I kinda lost my momentum on this project and currently, it has been sitting on a shelf waiting for completion.

Head is from a Mag C mated to this body. The threads from the Mag C body were cut and glued to the neck of the host, thus allowing the Mag C head to retain focusing or be completely removed.

Currently, it is set up using 2 XML's reflowed onto a single MCPCB, driven in parallel by a single 18650. I hate how the beam looks, so I am going to go with something else, just not sure what. Plus, I don't get enough current draw from a single cell to do this justice, even from a 26650 IMR. I even tested 4 x C NiMh cells and only got 4A max, but they were not fully charged.

The pill is a copper pipe fitting pressed fit into a copper end coupling, filled with short pieces of 18G solid copper wire, and finally filled with solder. It fits snugly into the neck, requiring only a few taps of a hammer to slide into place. I tested a P60 module, but it is too small in diameter to fit.

Still working on a tail switch...

I like your C Mag mod, Hill...how did you reflow two LEDs on the same MPCB ?

I reflowed two XML's the same way I do one:

  1. Pre tin the PCB
  2. Lightly add flux to PCB and emitters
  3. Orient emitters on PCB side-by-side
  4. Heat on hot plate set to "5" (I found this to be the ideal setting for this)
  5. Allow solder to liquify and re-position emitters if needed.
  6. Transfer to chunk of aluminum to cool
  7. Viola - all done!

Sounds like each emitter covers half a pad. Might be a candidate for either a DIY Sinkpad with two wires or a real Sinkpad.

I think you are probably right. Since the beam pattern leaves much to be desired, I think I will transplant these to separate PCB's and forget about the dual XML idea.

This is still be a good idea for a space conscious mule but in any optic or reflector centered on the pad neither die will be at the focal point.
