[Poll] Which High CRI LED would you prefer in a new Wurkkos TS10SG?

  • 519a 3000K
  • 519a 4000K
  • 519a 5000K
  • 519a 5700K
  • SFT25 High CRI 5700K

The 519a would be Domed.

Individuals could choose to DeDome for themselves.

This is simpler than asking Wurkkos to DeDome some and not others.

3 Thanks

This poll is intended to help Wurkkos decide which High CRI LED would be most popular, IF they were to offer a TS10SG High CRI (or a TS10 Triple with non CSP LEDs).

They are trying to decide whether to also add a Buck or Boost driver. More discussion about those details in this thread.

imo a TS10SG is the simplest to implement because the mcpcb is already compatible with the 519a and SFT25 High CRI LED footprint. And the existing optic is also already compatible with Domed 519a LEDs, as well as the SFT25 High CRI.

A TS10 Triple with 519a or SFT25 High CRI LEDs, would be a more complicated redesign, because it would require a new mcpcb and optic, in order to be compatible with Domed 519a LEDs.

BTW, the Lumintop FWAA and FW1AA already offers 519a, but not SFT25 High CRI.

afaik, No manufacturer currently offers a light with SFT25 High CRI.

The best would be SFT40/SFT70 3000k. KR1AA offers 5050 size emitter.

I received my Vtiger S2 with the SFT25R 5700K HighCRI and I think that emitter would suit the TS10 beautifully!

Anywhere between 3500K and 4500K is my happy place. Lower than that, it’s a bit too orange, and above that gets kinda harsh and cold (which is generally fine for throwers where you’re just trying to see the thing at distance, but I think it’s unpleasant close up in floody lights.)

1 Thank

i only voted 3000K because you don’t give a lower option :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
2700k or would be nice… and why not 719A

Of the given choices, 519A 5700K dedomed is by far my favorite. It makes a really, really nice ~4000K-ish beam with a low duv and a warm golden hue. It would need to have an unglued bezel to be able to dedome the LEDs though.

After that, my next choice would be 519A 5000K with dome on. It’s not as nice, but it’s the next closest. Pretty decent tint overall, in the ones I’ve seen.

The others… I wouldn’t really use even if I got it for free.

good point!

I read your post in the TS10 thread Jon. It’s a very good point, no other manufacturer offers the SFT, whereas we’ve got multiple 519A hosts out there. I see zero advantage to fit a 519A 4000K when Lumintop have just peaked with the FW1AA.

The SG needs to be throwy, and have a beam that is actually a useful tint rather than one that pleases for a few minutes each night while finding one’s way to the loo or whatever.

They should try to source some leds from Hopthink instead, since cost is a concern, and they are dirt cheap.

good suggestion
Firelight2 has posted that the NTG35 works well for him in a TS10SG
I think that would make a nice close range beam, similar to a 519a in a TS10SG
And it would serve a similar role as a TS10 Triple

Then the TS10SG could serve the role of a TS10 Triple without the extra cost and complexity of using 3 LEDs instead of 1.
Plus Wurkkos would not have to source a new Triple LED mcpcb…

My suggestion to use the High CRI SFT25 would be as a small throwy light, in addition to the more close range use of a TS10SG with a DeDomed 519a or Hopthink LED such as the NTG35

The main challenge for Wurkkos at this time, imo, is to source a driver that has sublumen moonlight, Aux lights, and low Flicker Index. The boost driver from the Copper SC13 that they are considering does not have Aux, and does not have sublumen. I dont have a Flicker Index test for the driver, I dont know what sort of modulation depth is uses.

The one big disadvantage of the TS10SG vs the TS10 is the beam quality. Unless they reworked it to use a conventional TIR or do a lot of optimization with the current optics it would be a big downgrade in beam shape

2 Thanks

I can understand your concern since an SFT25 has a very small hotspot compared to a TS10 Triple. However, with a DeDomed 519a or an NTG35/Hopthink LED, which are Domeless, the beam is similar to the TS10 Triple. And would be useful for similar close range applications.

Notice the beam shapes on bottom right of each of these three photos:

The middle pic is the Dedomed 519a. See how similar the beam is to the TS10 Triple on left?

My main reason for suggesting the TS10SG with a wider LED, instead of a TS10 Triple, is that it would be easier for Wurkkos to implement. They would not need to change the mcpcb, since the TS10SG already has the correct LED solder pads.

The Tint of the wider LEDs Im suggesting, is more rosy than the CSP LEDs that were used in the TS10 Triple.

Yeah, I know the differences and I mean all the rings and weird stuff in the SG (still present regardless of the emitter) vs the quite clean one of the triple.

Why are You so bent on it being such a difficult thing to make a new mcpcb? It seems much less hassle than reoptimizing the optics (unless there’s a better one that has the exact same dimensions).

Sure, three emitters are more expensive than one but if it’s some of the recent Chinese LEDs (which sell for 2-3$ retail, so are probably negligible cost when bought in bulk) then does it even matter much? And You get a straightforward way of implementing dual fuel with a boost driver, get better efficiency at the emitter (lower Vf) etc.

agree
I think it would be Great if Wurkkos produces a TS10 Triple with a Boost Driver. Especially if it costs less than a D3AA.

I hope it happens..

Meanwhile, Wurkkos seems interested in using the Buck driver from the Copper Sofirn SC13. That means no dual fuel, and no sublumen.

1 Thank

One platform for two formats would be pretty cost effective. TS10SG-F(loody) or TS10SG-T(hrowy).

But man, a boost version would definitely be cool.

1 Thank

Agree

I think of Wurkkos as a sort of Value Added Reseller that buys Special Factory Orders from Sofirn. Wurkkos does not design their own drivers.

The TS10 used the driver from the Sofirn SC21 Pro, and the design cues from the FWAA. Sofirn built the TS10 for Wurkkos.

I dont think Sofirn has a Boost driver with Anduril. They do have the SC13 Buck driver with Anduril. That is why Wurkkos wants to use a Buck driver. They dont have access to a Boost driver.

For people that want a Triple LED light with Anduril and a Boost Driver.. the D3AA is the way.

1 Thank

14500 only and a B35AM with boost driver anyone?

1 Thank

Does that mean it’s Sofirn’s fault that the TS26 anduril driver is so terrible? :grimacing:

1 Thank

fwiw, this is the latest from Wurkkos:

I think a Copper TS10SG with Buck Driver, a DeDomed 519a 5700K, and a USB-C 14500, could be especially popular.
