Potting for thermal improvement?

Building a 90cri XHP35 P60 drop in to use on a Solarforce L2B bike light and having some issues with the driver overheating at 100. Not that I will be using it at 100 but I only have so many different mode groups to pick from and in order to run 50% it has to have 100% available so I don’t want to accidentally cause overheating damage. I have the driver well soldered into the pill. Would using a potting compound like 832HD inside the pill improve the thermal characteristics of the build?

Yes it will help. Also wrapping the dropin with foil or soda can strips to better transfer the heat into the host. A 24 ounce Monster can usually required only 1-2 layers to get tight.

Right now I’ve been using copper foil tape and its definitely transferring heat! Going to try some 0.1mm copper sheet I just ordered, though I doubt it makes much of an improvement in reality.

I do copper sheeting and use these silicone cubes. Potting would be better but these are quick, easy, cheap, and reversible. They have worked well for me.

Are those cubes like a soft putty compound? or do they need to be cut to shape?
thanks
