This is my work EDC, aka "The Black Maggot". It's a beat-up Solarforce L2. It's had more hits than Elvis – I've lost count of how many times this thing has hit the concrete or been dropped into a tub of oil/inhibitor/solvent. It's had multiple driver board replacements due to them being smashed by the battery after being dropped head-first. 
….But these days it doesn't get dropped quite as often. This is a practical mod, which is a great edition to a work-light, especially in my line of work as a Motor Mechanic. Basically, I've added some neodymium magnets to the body, encased in 'shrink-wrap' to keep them in place. These things stick like shit to a blanket... For the L2, I used 28mm 2:1 ratio shrink wrap, & some 8mm N38 neodymium magnets, all of which are readily available for a couple of bucks on flea-bay. I don't need to tell you to at least take out the battery prior to doing this.... I'll let the pictures do the talking;

I find this much more usable than the panel-type work lights that you can get, & the other guys in the shop have been converted with this mod also. Thanks.

Nice mod idea! I have to get me some of these magnets! And wow is that a beat up well used light! Certainly no shelf queen! Feels good to put a light to good use rather than just "play" with them and keep them on a shelf, doesn't it?

. Mine don't ever get to this stage (admitted, I'm not a motor mechanic). Your experience makes me think about how to easy mod a light to prevent smashing a standard driver.(Now I remember that I have a cheap UF502b that has an extra partition between the battery and the driver where just the button of the battery sticks through)

Nothing in particular - just the length of the shrink wrap prior to being shrunk.
I’ve started filling the void inside the pill with silicone, which helps the components stay in place on the driver, but it’s not bullet-proof… plus it’s a pain to clean out next time you have to replace a driver…
Update; I left “The Black Maggot” stuck under a vehicle just over a month ago…. said vehicle turns up at work again today, low & behold, the torch is still stuck firmly to the chassis rail.
The battery measured 0, but the protection circuit had cut in, & a quick reset showed the old TF flame was still holding 2.6v
The vehicle had travelled just under a thousand k’s.

Brilliant idea and a great story of the well traveled maggot.
But a word of warning to any members who like to wear an automatic watch …… don’t get it anywhere near those magnets, or they’ll do a reverse Uri Geller on your movement, and maybe hands
