Nice! But do I spot correctly that the black printing is a bit off-center? It can not be used as an exact template for sanding down to 14/10mm like this. No big issue for me though :-)
I just blew up the photo and cropped to one 10mm circle. In GIMP, I measured from each corner of the central solder pad. Top to bottom is centered, but I got 0.004” skew toward positive pad.
The measuring error is probably about 0.005”, due to camera angle and pixelization in the photo.
The 10mm positive lead solder point is 0.004” closer to the emitter pad than the negative one.
Does that, then, also mean that it’s off on the full diameter of the pad? Not just the 10mm circle? If cutting the pad down this can be adjusted, but what if used at 16mm…will the emitter be ever so slightly off center?
That sounds like that the solder pads are centered well enough for any application . But my concern was just the lettering, or more precise: the black rings that should be templates for sanding the board down to 14/10mm, those look more off than 0.004"
I see what you see too, but look closer at pic #1. They look vastly different, so it's just a camera trick. Also look at the rings as compared to the outside diameter, when you do that there doesn't look to be any misalignment.
No, it looks like there is a misalignment, dthrckt measured that all solder pads are almost dead-right, but the 10mm ring touches the +pad, but it is about 0.5mm apart from the -pad, so it is about 0.25mm off-center (sorry, I'm a metric man).
I agree it does, especially for an engineer which I am not . Actually I kind of regret my forum name (djozz) but once you start with one I don't think it is a good idea to change it (I even am a bit disturbed when someone changes his/her avatar, but that is just the autistic part of me )
i agree, i’m not a fan of avatar changes either, but if you do change your name to metric man you can put together some theme music, maybe enlist a sidekick
I measured from the center emitter pad to the 10mm ring, and from the center emitter pad to the 10mm lead solder points.
The center pad is off-center within that ring 0.004” (+/- 0.004”) to the positive side, and so is the 10mm positive lead solder point.
0.004” is 0.1mm - or…the thickness of a sheet of copy paper
Visually, I’d say the 10mm positive lead solder point is farther off than 0.004” - but the point of measuring the photo was just to give an idea how tiny a distance we’re talking about….
