Pre Order your 16mm sinkpads

Hmm, thanks for the measurements, and sorry if I caused some unneccesary discussion on this .

not at all…in fact, I suppose I probably did…especially since photo measurements are surely inaccurate, but I was curious and thought others might be, too…

It’s pretty close, and there’s not much you’re going to to about it. Silk-Screen alignment at most board shops isn’t better than +/- 0.006”

That’s actually why I put the trim-lines on the solder mask layer of the SinkPAD design that I did (before SinkPAD modified it and replaced BLF with SinkPAD) - PCB shops are usually better at aligning the copper and solder mask layers than they are at aligning the copper and Silk-Screen Layers.

I didn’t notice that SinkPAD also removed my “Excess Solder Escape Pads” on the Thermal Slug… That’s too bad… :frowning: I figured they might have to slightly modify the geometry in order to punch it, but I hadn’t expected them to completely remove the escape pads…

PPtk

i hadn’t noticed those - wish they’d left them.

they wouldn’t need to change the stamp…just the insulating layer?

Pilot, can the escape pads be added back by removing some mask before reflowing? Either with a blade in a triangular configuration or carefully with a dremel tool?

It’s a pillar, so removing the mask will expose the dielectric layer. The base copper is down lower. It looks like we’ll have to use just the right amount of solder paste and hope the emitter still ‘sits down’ as it should.

I’m pretty sure the pillar design is why they cut off the exit areas. For overflow, would it matter if a small area were taken out of the mask “all” the way down to the base copper? I’ve used SinkPADs in my reflowing before, the few that I’ve done, and wondered about what would happen if I used to much solder paste…it was obvious that it would be trapped inside the mask and hold the emitter higher than necessary. And on the other hand, not enough would leave a partial thermal link.

it comes out if you push down on them and use enough flux - escape pads or not.

I’ve been thinking I’ll made a special tool for doing that, for each emitter size - a piece of hollow rod w/ inner diameter slightly bigger than the dome and something on top of it w/ some weight so I don’t have to manually press down.

Any updates

Bump!

I’d assume some are in the mail already (hopefully my order!) since he got them on Monday but I’ll wait to see what the man himself says when he updates us.

i packed up 25-30 orders and its break time  check the spreadsheet because there are some that did not add there address

and i marked shipped but i should have put boxed up

You might want to photo the packages so you can verify shipping address if any problems arise. Great job you are doing here Nitro. Much appreciated.

U read my mind, that’s what I’m going to do once I’m done with all of them so I can 2bbl check everyone’s order

I don’t see any marked shipped

Scroll to the right. Another column added

Pm sent.

Sent a pm and haven't heard back, spreadsheet is still showing an incorrect transaction# for mine. Hope they haven't shipped yet.
