punctured 18650s

I was having a hard time taking one of my original battery pack for a dell laptop I used to have and punctured a bit of the top one one and 2 on the sides? are they still safe to use if I used plastic tape? Also on taking tabs on 2 of them they sparked and the tabs took a bit off the plastic wrap sort of by the positive end on that gap/indentation before coming to the top. Any advice?

If you're just talking about the shrink wrap, it's no big deal. At least one member here rewraps all his battery pack pulls. You could do that, or plastidip, or tape.

On 2 I punctured only the plastic wrap. On 3 i punctured the metal case itself.

Any that you punctured the metal case on should not be used, and should be placed outside away from anything flammable.

:open_mouth: DO NOT USE THEM

They could be dangerous and if they are could easily ignite spontaneously…….

As others have said a punctured metal 18650 is very dangerous. Dented should be disposed of too.
Please read some li-ion safety info. The thread in scaru’s signature is a place to start. Google li-ion “vent with flame” if you’ve never seen what they can do. And thats if they don’t explode. 18650 exploded, nearly lost finger

You must have been using something pretty sharp to do that. For the ones that weren’t punctured, you can get shrink wrap for them real cheap from fastech, works much better than tape. lol

I would like to see how much charge would those punctured take…
