Q8 Lampshade

I used my Q8 the other night outside with a diffuser for cooking hot dogs on the fire. The diffuser is the Fenix AOD-L. The light was very harsh and not pleasant to be around. Does anyone have a trick to reduce the bare light bulb effect? A small lamp shade maybe? The best I could come up with was a paper plate on top.

In addition, I saw an interesting product in a TV ad this morning.

Well, now I’ve got an idea, have to take my calipers home and fire up openscad.

I did this with a drinking cup from the dollar store. Sanded it down for that frosted look.

I diffuse with a flat piece of film into a taller tubular diffuser . With or without the film on the lens you can look right at the diffuser when the Q8 is on it's highest setting . Without the first film diffusion it throws more light out the end of the wand but that's not always a bad thing either .

my best luck has been using a longer tube. (otoh good ones are hard to find)

The silicone makes a nice addition . It grabs really nicely onto the top of the light .So well in fact that it's got me considering running a bead of silicone caulk around the threads of some kind of lid instead of continually searching for stuff that fits the bezels of lights

I used to like these...Shooting light thru the lid before hitting the inverted small foam container .Basically the same principle .Diffuse first before hitting the shade / secondary diffuser.

Sofirn produces diffusers for the Q8: https://sofirnlight.com/diffusers-for-different-models-p0029.html

You could get a BLF LT1 for the smoothest light with least glare.

so i’ve found that an empty single serving mac n cheese cup with the wrapper off fits the bill quite nicely

Can BLF LT1 parts be purchased?

I believe if you ask Sofirn nicely, they can sometimes make parts available. Try to message Sofirn directly.

I don’t want to seem like a one trick pony, but I went and scaled up the FW3A diffuser as a joke, and I’m starting to like it.

Big and beefy, thick, and a wonderful orange color.

Is it harsh to look at like a bare light bulb? I like the FW3A diffuser you made but I use it mainly for lightening mode. While you’re at it the SP36 needs one too.

I don’t have a bare light bulb to compare it with, but it’s easier to look at in the dark than the florescent bulbs in my bathroom.

I, uhh, I don’t have an SP36 to test fit on.

There would be a market for the SP36 diffuser since there are no commercial options. Hint, hint. Anyway, your FW3A diffuser is great.

Well, it’s something like $80-ish on Amazon, or a month on a boat.

You have one? Willing to be a guinea pig?

It’s my fav for runtime, lumens, and feels better than my Q8 in the hand. If you are patient you can get one for about $40 on Amazon with Sofirn special. I forget what the bezel measures and I don’t have it here.
