I ordered a couple and already shipped. Yea, Ali is pretty darn good on this. Might be a local problem - your PC, wi-fi, etc.

It was also my understanding that Ailexpress had cleaned up it’s act and I know how they handle things now. And I use PayPal whenever possible to get the isolation. Much as I hate to enrich PayPal. But they are a useful service.
The only reason I posted this is because of the timing. There were no other recent direct charges to my credit card. When I have to use a credit payment, I only do it with people believed to be a legitimate business. Granted, someone could have been sitting on the card info; who knows from what source. It may be for sale out there. The possibilities are semi-limitless. The whole thing about using credit cards for remote purchases is incredibly open to fraud.
One of the legitimate vendors could have been compromised. A legitimate vendor could have a side business. An employees may have skimmed the infor for a little cash. Although this feels like someone with experience did it. Maybe Home Depot lost all of it’s records again. Etc. etc.
The warning I posted said possible and explained why I thought it possible. Timing. Best I can do. If you ordered one of the cases, you might want to check your credit card history; just for jollies.
I see (after I posted this) that some people are checking. Good - that is all I wanted to share.

I also recently just had my virtual visa used by someone unknown too, on the 28th.
Never bought anything from aliexpress, idk yet what site could have leaked it.
It was only a $4 purchase but if I hadn’t caught it so quick it would have probably been a lot more.
Not sure if this is related to any of these other members’ events…

Just found out about this through Reddit. I’m interested in 1 as well. Thanks!
So, the thing about credit card fraud… Usually it’s not that simple. The people who collect the card data are typically not the ones who make fraudulent purchases with those cards. Instead, they collect a bunch of cards and sell the data to anyone willing to buy it. This usually takes time. Then if the cards ever actually get used, it’s by an entirely unrelated party.
Or in another common scenario, someone steals card data from a merchant then ransoms the data back. The cards are never actually charged. This has happened rather a lot, involving some very large brands.
Chances are high that, for pretty much anyone, at least one of your cards is in some black market database somewhere, just waiting for someone to buy it and try to use it. It doesn’t normally result in much — there are a lot more cards compromised than cards actually abused. The biggest risk here is if a large entity like a government decided to buy up all that data and use it to run a denial-of-service attack on some other country’s financial systems.
Definitely check your account periodically for unexpected activity, but it’s unlikely that such activity is related to the transactions immediately preceding it.

Even better is to have it text your phone any time a purchase is made.
Where do the people on the CPF list fit in to the 1st 500, 2nd 500…. purchase system? I assume we will be notified on a CPF PM.
I’d assume you’ll have to check here for the PM and it’ll be in the order in which you said “I’m in” in relation to others.

Fortunately i dont need Credit Card for all my Aliexpress purchases since it support Doku Wallet which i can top-up by using ATM, mobile banking or one of many local mini-markets around the city such as 7-eleven. So i just put as much as i need for one particular transaction.

Are the banking systems everywhere else so much behind the Swedish banks? In Sweden we just log on to our internet banking page, generate a card number, select expire date and load it with the desired maximum amount that can’t be exceeded. When it’s depleted we just generate a new card. We never have to use our real card number for any internet purchase.

I wish it were like that here. I have been into several banks trying to establish a card that is not linked to my existing accounts, and it just can’t happen. The only bank willing to do it filled in all the information for me and then it was flagged by the government requiring me to go and sit all day in government offices in order to obtain some sort of mandate document to give them permission to proceed. Ain’t nobody got time for that - as they say.
Yes. Banking systems elsewhere (at least in the US) really are that far behind. They just finally switched to chip+PIN cards last year, despite the tech already being three decades old. And the only reason they upgraded, really, was due to widespread bad press they had gotten about dozens of millions of cards being compromised at major retail stores.
It’s rather silly that they spent all that money on upgrading and didn’t even upgrade to anything recent.

The funny thing is that you used to be able to do this with several US banks, bank of America used to have “virtual credit card numbers” for example, so did paypal. But all of those programs seem to have disappeared in the last 5 years or so, they say no one actually used them.
You can get 3rd party’s that will still do this. “Blur” is a privacy extension for your browser (that everyone should have installed BTW). They have a paid add-on service that allows you to “mask” your credit card numbers. I have not tried it personally but I have been real happy with all of their free services.
