The availability of the new 3 volt XHP 50.2 emitter has my mind churning with possibilities. The most obvious to me, cause I’m obsessed with maglites, is a quad build based on the Q8 reflector and LED4power’s XP/XM DTP MCPCB in a 3C mag. It has occurred to me that there are two ways to arrange the emitters depending on which voltage of emitter I buy. With two cells in series I can do 6 volt emitters in parallel or 3 volt emitters in 2S2P configuration. The driver will be a FET+1 dual channel of some flavor.
It’s going to be slightly easier to do in parallel with 6 volt emitters and I could probably get a better tint. However, I want to get as much light out the front of this rig as possible and I’m a bit concerned about the reports of fragility of the 6 volt XHP-50.2. So I’m soliciting opinions on which would be the best route to follow. Will it be 3 volt, or 6 volt? And does it really matter?
Thanks all,
Brian
