Question about LED selection

I have a friend that would like me to build him a light that will be used to bow fish at night. My question is what tint or color LED would be best for looking into the water?

I believe it would be Warm White/Amber. Cool white has too much reflection and cannot penetrate haze/mist like Amber can.

Hmmm. Well if we look at how light penetrates water, the reds penetrate the least deep. Violet penetrates the deepest. So if penetration is part of the question you would be best off with violet, then blue, with orange and red last. ???

So that means there’s a use for LB emitters? :person_facepalming:

Or some dedomes gone wrong…

And Cree does make some blue dangerously close to UV emitters for people who really like the dedomes gone horribly wrong look.

Since you’re building it, I’d recommend a multi-emitter head with a broad-enough range of tint bins to better approximate True White.

Thanks for the laugh!
