Question for members from Italy-Marcato pasta machine

So, my aunt is crazy about homemade pasta, she is retired, has a lot of free time and makes a lot of pasta. She used her Marcato Atlas 150 pasta machine almost every day and, ofcourse, managed to destroy it. I am not surprised since her approach to solving "stuck" problems is: apply the force and if it doesn't budge then apply some more force :D

Long story short, I would like to buy her a new Marcato Atlas 150 with additional capellini cutter roller and (something for me) Ravioli attachment.
Here are some pictures:

this new colored ones look excellent :)

Capellini cutter

and Ravioli "maker"

What I would like first is to gather some informations about where I could buy this, in which shops, where to look for best price and what price should I expect???

My colleague will travel to Italy on vacation soon and I plan to give him homework to buy this nice pasta maker, I don't want to buy it online because shipping cost are enormous...

Thanks in advance :D

I’ll come over and “test” some of that home made Ravioli! Yum!

You lucky dog! :wink:

Are you in the US? Although I bought my Marcato Atlas directly from their master distributor in New York several years ago, they are available everywhere now. Even amazon.com carries it for $60, including shipping.

We don’t use it every day at our house, but we use it quite a bit. Our kids are 10 and 12 years old. It is a great bonding experience to make pasta at home. Kids love getting flour all over them and challenging each other to make the longest strand of capellini.

Among other attachments, we have the ravioli and raviolini (smaller raviolis) ones. Both of them work great! Nothing beats homemade fresh ricotta and spinach ravioli.

I recommend the motor attachment to avoid hand cranking, unless of course she wants the exercise. We find the motor very useful.

btw, those colors look nice, but I somehow feel safer with food grade stainless steel over colored metal for food equipment. Besides, I don’t know if all the attachments are available in color.

Buon appetito!

There are a zillion listings on Ebay… shipping less than $20.

You have looked up their homepage €64,80? http://www.marcato.it/it/shop/design/atlas-1-1/atlas-150-color

They have a list of shps that sell their items…: http://www.marcato.it/it/rivenditori

@sanka

- No, I am from Serbia, not that far from Italy (about 90 minutes flight).

- Amazon doesn’t deliver to my country, maybe only 0.2% products like CD’s or books, for the rest of 99.8% I get tihs

- Motor attachment is a bit too expensive for me so I will have to pass it this time…

- Ebay says that colored ones are at least 3 times more expensive than plain SS version so unfortunately no ferrari red pasta maker for me :_(

  • Grazie :smiley:

@texaspyro

  • didn’t have time to check them all but I flipped through about 2/3 zilion of them and I would divide them in 3 general categories: 1. shipped from USA, 2. shipped from Italy and 3. shipped from other EU country like Germany or UK.
    If shipped from USA: for most of them that I checked shipping is about “$67.75 USPS Priority Mail International”

    If shipped from Italy: there are some “OK” deals like this one:

No matter, even if shipping would be free and I pay US$70 for machine when this package arrives I would still have to pay 10% customs fees and 20% of taxes, so: ($70+10%)20% = $92.4 which would still be OK except shipping is not free plus if you carry small size package like this one through the customs as a personal stuff, you don’t have to pay taxes nor customs fees so I would still save $22.4 and because shipping is about $30 I would save at least $55.4

@Teutate
Thanks for pointing out the list, colleague of mine has a relative in Italy so we will send them shop list before he goes there, they will buy it so he doesn’t have to chase the pasta machine around the Italy :slight_smile: I just wanted to collect enough data to make their job easier and faster :slight_smile:

The 150 is a very good heavy duty roller. Mine came from Amazon(own stock) sans color. I earn my living in the kitchen and have owned several stainless steel machines. Never use a rav maker which limits shape. I can endorse the electric roller which makes it easier to solo. It’s just me but I would not ask friends to hump a pasta maker around town. I learned the hard way when I just had to have a stupid large Paella pan I saw in Spain. Carried it a couple hundred miles across the Cote de Azur an ditched it in Seville . That’s my story and I’m going to stick with it.

I use my roller to make crackers and a rolling pin for pasta…yeh I’m bad
I thought this was a Flashlight forum………never mind

Also we make pasta at home and we use a machine similar to the Atlas, is called “Imperia” and is well known in Italy.
I live in Rome, if I can help write me in private.

Oh, I forgot to update you on this subject :slight_smile:

For some personal issues, my colleague postponed his trip to Italy several months so I won’t be making ravioli anytime soon :frowning:
but we contacted his relatives in Italy and send them informations so they could look it up when in shopping.

@The Last Katun
thanks for your offer, I generally don’t like to bother people with my non essential/ non urgent requests but if I
run out of other options you will get my pm :slight_smile: again, thanks very much :beer:
