Question for the knife guys out there

Well you sure showed us all a thing or two. Great job and a great post!

Nice work!

Wow, nice work, IN Caver. The choil looks perfect—like it was designed that way, not just knocked out of a saw blade. Bravo, sir.

Nice one. Did you consider leaving the saw tooth at the back of the tang? It would have made a great glass breaker.
Now you have started there’ll be no stopping you, things will begin to take on a “I could make a knife out of that appearance”.

That is a really great first effort! Look at a Spyderco Mule (I have done it this way) for a great blade blank or Knifekits.com for the blank and everything else.

Know that most of the time these steels still need to be hardened and tempered to keep an edge. You can harden steel with a torch, depending on the composition. Any steel that you can cut without a hassle has not been hardened.

When I sharpen my chisels I use a belt sander on its back clamped to my bench. Keep the speed down and only use light pressure so keep the steel cool. I get perfect results.

You may want to give it a try.

Nice job by the way.

Marc.

Sharpened the knife this morning using a mouse pad and sand paper. I won’t be push cutting toilet paper but I have a lot of missing hair on my left arm.

Finished another blade today

Awesome work, thanks for sharing!

Nice work Caver, what was the steel source for this one?

That looks great.
What did you use as a lanyard tube, it looks like copper tubing.

I used the other half of the saw blade for this knife and the tube for the lanyard hole is copper.
