Questions about Lumintop, particularly the electronic switch

Hi all, I’m considering getting a Tool Ti, I have a few questions.
First, what is the overall quality of Lumintop’s torches? Not the usual “build quality”, I cannot see me “damaging” a piece of brass or titanium by normal use. What I mean is how they age, particularly the electronic parts inside. They claim that the LED have 50,000 hour or so lifetime, but will the internal parts of the torch survive that long?
Second, I’ve seen pictures of the electronic switch, and it seems to contain this small black clicky button that can be found in many electronic appliances, and does not seem to be able to take much abuse. How durable is this electronic switch?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BLF!
Wise to check it thoroughly before getting one
Lumintop is seen as a good quality brand but I am curious too what longtime users will report!

You can buy it here

with code 217FNL the price drops to $41.30. I like the High CRI N219b version.

Your durability questions, I can’t answer. Imo those questions are not relevant to the experience of owning a TiTool. Its pretty much up to you to spend the money and find out how you like it.

fwiw, there is no known defect with the E switch, other than it requires a battery in the light, to keep High mode charged. Spend time time with google and look for TiTool Review, there is a lot to read while you are debating whether to spend your money. It is a very nice light if you are OK with mostly using medium and Low. High mode does not last very long. I carry a similar AAA light with similar modes and the same LED. I find it very handy. These lights have NoPWM and NoCircuit”Noise”, there are very few lights on the market that can make that claim, and even fewer that offer N219b also.

welcome to the forum
bear in mind none of the people here have only 1 light
hang on to your wallet

Today I swapped the Nichia 219BT 4000K into 2 Tool lights that came with Cree led. First was a Stainless Worm and the second is the Tool Ti.
The Cree Tool Ti was bought on a great deal. However I ordered the Nichia and got a Cree version as Gearbest had mixed the inventory as they applied their bar code stickers. Box clearly said Cree and the GD tag said Nichia. That is the Ti I finally got around to fixing today.

Last week I had to replace a driver on a friends Copper Tool. Luckily I had a couple spares I bought last year.

Having almost every version of the Tool lights except the aluminum ones, I have to say that my Copper Worm is the one I have had in my pocket most. No switch to go bad and its the smaller and brightest of the Tools with the most efficient driver (longer run time). The Ti is a nice light in the Nichia version but I am not a fan of having to completely turn off the light and turn it back on again to switch modes. That is 5 clicks to High mode. Also be aware that the Ti electronic switch needs to charge up for a few minutes for the light to work. Also I have experienced that the electronic switch lights will get brighter after maybe 20 minutes if you just installed a battery and the switch has been fully discharged. Both my Ti Tools do not show a difference in M & H until they sit for a short time even after they finally get the switch juiced up enough to turn on.

Most do not like the twisty head lights but I like them if it is possible to twist the head one handed. By far my most favored light is the single mode twisty Copper Olight i3E EOS. Super smooth threads for one-handed operation. Thread pitch allows the head to move further with less degree of turn. The i3E uses a TIR optic and allows a shorter head and shorter OAL. But the TIR still has the same size spot as the other lights in AAA. TIR is plastic so it will get scratched in the long term. It can be wet sanded and polished again or buy spares.

With no switch, electronic or electrical, that is one less thing to go bad on the light.

Thank everybody for your replies. Much appreciated.

I would grab the Tool Ti immediately if it had a twisty, because as you said less parts, less thing to go sour. I’m also considering the Maratac AA Rev 1 but the Tool Ti design is soooo nice lol

Maratac and Lumintop lights are very alike… VERY! and you won’t regret getting either.

As for the electronic switch, it has a small rechargeable battery inside along with some electronic components that sends a signal to the driver when the button is pressed. I don’t know how much abuse can it take compared to a standard clicky but I haven’t read anything about one of those switches failing.

Titanium most of the time has a pretty gritty feel in threads.
Copper twisty are smooth.
Thrunite Ti is the worse.
I have tried to lap the thrunite Ti threads, helped but still crunchy.

They are okay guess. Nothing special build quality wise.

After wetting my TD16 the side switch started to play up maybe water got inside? It still works okay now some times it flickers maybe its got a connection issue.

I EDC a Lumintop tool and i am using a 10440 in it and its still going after some times which is good because its not rated to be used with a 10440.

I love the e-switch, since I really dislike twisty lights. I have 3 of them and none have failed, one of them gets used every night. Now, I do only run NiMH batteries as the tailcap is not recommended for lion cells.

Wow I’d love to see you put a 14500 in a Lumintop Tool :stuck_out_tongue: do you use a hammer ?

The Tools w electronic switch ( Ti and Brass), actually have a capacitor, not a battery in the switch. It is not a wear item afaik, unlike a battery.

LiIon works in the Copper and Aluminum tools (they have Mechanical switches). That is, you still get 3 modes, though they are higher than with lower voltage cells.

However, if you put 10440 LiIon in a TiTool or Brass Tool, they only work in High mode, until the cell drops below 3.8v… so I would say no, the TiTool and LiIon are not a good match.

The Maratac AA has PWM, I would avoid it for that reason. The Maratac Ti has gritty threads, like all Ti twisties. That leaves the Copper Maratac w Nichia as my Top pick, since I like twisties.

For a clickie, the Copper Tool w Nichia is my pick. I love copper, if you don’t, then there is also an Aluminum Tool w Nichia, its a great deal for $15

now about efficiency, the TiTool is not efficient on high mode, neither are my other Tools. otoh, the Maratac AAA w Nichia is more efficient than the Tools, and has a regulated high mode in addition to regulated med and low. The TiTool is not regulated on High, but is on Med and Low.

If you like the TiTool, buy it and enjoy it
It is an excellent intro to Nichia LEDs, and a very nice piece of pocket jewelry

did I mention that Imo you should NOT buy the Cool White options?

LOL I was like wtf there’s an AA tool?

Woops 10440 lol I honestly dont use it much its a backup light. Now on me as EDC i have the Tool and XT1C and TIP. Some time i use just for a laugh its bright with a 10440.

I would love to see a AA tool that would be cool! I wish i could fit in a 14500 that would be an awesome EDC. I think the tools are one of the best looking flashlights on the market.

yeah right, i love my copper tool. Just wish they had an copper colored clip and magnet tailcap like brass version
