Quick weekend mod XHP50.2 4000k and SupFire L3

I have never really had a build with this light that I liked. I have had XM-L2 both with dome on and dome off, XP-G2 0D dome off and was never happy with it. I finally corrected problem this weekend! I put in an XHP50.2 4000K!

The Supfire is the light on the left…

This light was build for an XM sized emitter, so the XHP50.2 is a good fit in the SMO reflector. The reflector is fairly shallow and the inside of the base has a large flat ring. So, the beam is always ringy. I installed a Texas Ace 2S driver with the FET limited to 200 rather than direct drive. My goal is to end up with a very bright light that will no overheat immediately. I am drawing 5.2 amps at the tail with King Kong 26650 cells. I may bump it up in software just a little. I am not sure what this equates to at the LED, but it appears to put out around 3000 or so lumens. The heat management in the driver works well, the light will heat throttle and as it cools it will start to recover. Despite the crappy pill the heat travels down the tube to the tail switch and up the head to the end.

I am very happy with this light. One could use one of the higher modes for a good hour on a decent set of cells and 8 or 9 minutes heatsinked by your had with out issue. It could be brighter, but I did not design or intend for it to be a rocket.

XHP50.2 4000k at 130 yards

XHP70 sliced and FET driven at 130 yards

XHP50.2 hotspot at about 40 yards

XHP70 hotspot… not, OP reflector

Nice, looks like a good all-around floody light. If you are getting 5.2A at the tail the LED is also getting 5.2A, at least on average (PWM).

Is that the S70 hot spot in your comparison pictures?

Yes, it is the S70. The S70 is the cooler white beam. I have my PWM set at 200 for the moment, but I may bump it up. Just do not want to go full direct drive.
