Rayovac Mini Flashlight LED Keychain

Rayovac Mini Flashlight LED Keychain

I thought I’d toss in my two cents on this product. Keep in mind that while I love a good flashlight, my expertise is not equal to many/most of you here. Particularly those that mod and such.

Bought a bunch of these at Walmart a good while back for $2 each. Thought that was a pretty good price. I was looking for a nice small keychain light that was comfortable to carry in the pocket. I also wanted something that had a good burn time on a AAA. I’ve been pretty satisfied with this product. Puts out five lumens of light. While that isn’t a search light, I figured it was decent for a light this size/price for the general purposes it would be used for i.e. looking under the seat or around the car at night or putting the key in the lock etc. What I liked was the burn time which states seven hours on an alkaline and six on a heavy duty. I figured that was pretty decent as well.

I have one in my EDC as one of three different lights (each has a different overall purpose). I also have one attached to my SAK and fits in the pocket well. Haven’t experienced any issues with any of them so far.

Anyone else use this light?

Looks like a slightly redesigned light from one that was all the rage at CPF around the time I started there. Based on the limited data I am guessing a 5mm LED and a twist/press for momentary switch? Throw makes me guess that it has the led behind a small plastic optic like my old one did?

Mine was pretty awesome for what it was. The beam was sort of ringy from the optic but it was a nice pattern otherwise. The lens was one of the weak points since it was soft plastic that got scratched up. Over time the scratches took out some of the brightness but smoothed out the rings a little. It was awfully blue but that wasn’t uncommon for the 5mm LEDs of the time. There may still be buried threads at CPF (if they weren’t lost in the great database death) about the small mods done. For a very budget light it got quite a bit of love.

Somewhere I still have it buried. Long since retired from any kind of regular service and I stashed it somewhere “handy” as a backup … and haven’t seen it or thought about it since. I’m going to have to look for it now.
