Really off-topic: Anyone here mailed something from U.S. to France?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has mailed something from the U.S. to France (Paris) via USPS, and, if so, how long did it take?

I shipped a USPS Priority Mail International flat-rate package on 6/26, and it got to France pretty quickly (by 6/30 according to tracking - Processed Through Sort Facility), but as of today, 7/7/2014, it still hasn’t been delivered, so I’m starting to get worried about it.

Thanks,
Jim

Good wine, good cheese, French womens, French countryside …it might take the postie/courier’e ( ) some time.

Just sayin’.

FYI, here’s the tracking (minus some info):

I wouldn’t be too alarmed. It’s still within USPS’ time frame of 5-10 business days. Apparently they give you a money-back guarantee for France too. https://www.usps.com/ship/priority-mail-express-international.htm

Hi,

I just got off of the phone with USPS, after being on hold for 1+ hours, and I don’t know if this is accurate, but according to the person I spoke to, the USPS cannot track the shipment once it gets to France. She claimed that I was lucky to even see the one entry that I saw for France, because sometimes they don’t even show that, and that the tracking may, or may not update, once the package is or was delivered.

So, she said to contact the recipient, to see if they had received the package already, which I’ve done (but haven’t heard back yet).

Darn. I knew that I should’ve paid for Fedex instead of using USPS… I don’t think the price would’ve been that much more :(!!

Our postal service works quite good in general. When I receive a packet from china, from the moment it gets in the country it usually takes less than 4 days to come.
You might want to try tracking on the french postal website: look for “Suivi des envois”
Or this (duno the difference)

I got:

EDIT: The tracking # I have is formatted:

LZ313xxxxxxUS

I wonder if there’s a different number within the French postal system (like all numbers)?

EDIT2: lagman, To be clear, what I said wasn’t intended at all to be critical of the French post office … I was just conveying info that I got from my telcon with the USPS person…

No problem I’m just trying to help, not trying to defend France postal system.
The website I gave you works for Chinese packets (RC) but maybe not for US packets. Or the packets hasn’t been registered yet by our postal services. I don’t know…

I wouldn’t worry too much.

I received a lot of parcels in France from the US family via USPS, it sometimes takes less than a week sometimes 2 weeks, i remember one that was even more not sure of the exact delay but i thought it was lost when it showed up.

their customs will charge an import fee.
which could take some time to get adjusted.

Ordering from china, i never had to pay custom fees. Even for orders above 50USD.

Still no progression as of today, and the receipient says they haven’t gotten the package (actually just some documents/vouchers), but I do feel better after speaking with my bank, as they said that I have up to 116 days to dispute the original charge if the seller doesn’t receive my package and process it. It’s still a bit frustrating though, after paying $20+ for priority international, and then have it get stuck. I knew that I should’ve gone with Fedex :(!!

Well, the package has still not arrived, and I was on the phone with USPS, and they basically told me that they can’t do anything beyond the point where it got to France. It’s now been in France for at least 15 days :(…

That’s normal. You have to give the French post a call….

I have called my nationa(in Germany it’s dhl) post often, I give the tracking number and they can track it. The cool thing is they can track it a lot better than what gets showed in online tracking.

The problem is if it has not been scanned here and the other post says it is on its way it’s untrackable…

my packages from china have only been stopped once, but know the percentage of stopped packages from USA is way higher than those coming from China, Singapore, etc.
I suppose customs want to get a good profit, usually easier to find expensive goods coming from USA than from china

Thanks for the suggestion (calling France). I’m sorry to ask, but would they at the French post speak English? Also, does anyone have a contact #?

Thanks,
Jim

BTW, do you all really think that the package is actually going somewhere (not lost) in France after 2+ weeks? The destination was is Paris.

Thanks,
Jim

According to my experience… No, they won’t

They probably do, but won't admit it.

Just speak in English and they will eventually find some guy somewhere that speaks English. In the meanwhile you can practice your understanding of French accent, you’ll need it.
Finding the phone number of a public service is a whole other challenge though…
