Hi - In terms of preparation I should get a compact radio so in event of power failure or emergency I can listen to the local news stations.
It should be
-Small
-Take AA batteries (I have lots of eneloops)
-Digital Tune
-AM/FM
-Small speaker and headphones (Main use would be headphones but if they get lost I would need speaker.)
-Im not a fan of wind-ups
-Want something budget, but not super cheap so it wont even tune or work.
Can someone please recommend a radio for this - and a vendor link?
Many thanks!
(Any experience with this one?)

Or would one like this be okay? Its only $13 vs 55$ and the ratings seem pretty good.

I have this one it's pretty decent. It has a lion battery pack, it also takes AAs, it has a solar panel and a crank to charge it. I leave it plugged in to the wall to save the batteries. I leave it set to weather alert and it does turn on automatically and broadcast the weather alerts when it should. It will charge your cell phone through the USB plug on the back.
Product Description Self-Powered Digital AM/FM/NOAA Radio with Solar Power, Flashlight, and Cell Phone Charger From the Manufacturer Tune_in: the SOLARLINK FR360 by Etón For the calm of a sailboat, the curves of a bike...
My wife bought a small Sony AM/FM on clearance that I opened and put Duraloops in just the other day. Cool things about it:
- Optional power source include a crank/gen
- Has small lights: flashlight and diffused room light on top
- The FM receiver tunes our favorite local station without extending the antenna (nothing else does that in the sticks)
- Might be splash-proof, has cover over the earphone jack.
Model is ICF-B01 retail was about $40 but she got it on clearance for $10.

I have this one. http://www.amazon.com/FR600B-Solarlink-Self-Powered-S-A-M-E-Flashlight/dp/B001QTXKE2
I got it at an REI attic sale for 12 dollars. They returned it because it didn't get good enough reception. :P Works great for me.

Thanks to everyone for the comments and links.
This one looks pretty good actually, I found a place that ships to Canada for 5.95, and I know CC stuff is pretty good.
Can you pls let me know how you like it when you get it?
Just for the very rare event there is a power failure or something, its good to have something on hand.
Thanks.
Hey, if you found a better price (for USA) for it YOU LET ME KNOW please, haha!
I’m not married to countrycomm but to saving some bucks, hell yeah!
I’d get it in a few (1-3) days.

The Eton radios, as linked below by E1320, are the most flexible options. I have one in both my Bug-Out-Bag and Bug-In-Kit.
The cell-charger function is what sold me for emergency use, among the many factors.
Worth every penny, IMO. They are also available in-person at Radio Shack/Tandy.

It should be only 20USD shipped via ebay. (Seller has a 100% rating.)

It has a manual tune knob/dial, but it shows the station in digital. Review and price are good. Ive read they OEM for a lot of other more expensive brands.
