Recommend me a few more lights

I have several cheap <$15 lights that i started out with blue ultrafire 18650 batteries & combo charger. Since the initial purchase of those few cheap lights, I’ve done hours and hours of reading on here. I know the cheap sub $15 lights were just a starting point, I would like to expand into better lights, i do not have $100+ per light type budget. In the hours of reading, I’ve come across a few lights that seem to be good investments.

Here is what I’ve ordered in the past few days

sky ray king mimic (manafont)

UltraFire HD 2010 CREE XM-LT6 8W 1300 Lumen 5 Mode LED Flashlight Gray (tmart)
6pcs TrustFire 3.7V 2400mAh 18650 Lithium Rechargeable Batteries (tmart)

keygos m10
2x keygos orange IMR-26650 4800mAh 3.7v batteries
Trustfire A8 (keygoes site had the best price, i hope it is an authentic trustfire and not a A8 clone)
2x TrustFire 26650 Protected 3.7v 5000mA batteries (keygos site, again i hope these are authentic TFF batteries and not fakes)
for now I’ll use the included charger that comes with the trustfire A8 to charge the 26650 batteries

I would like to purchase some additional lights, and ask for advice.

I would prefer thrower over flooder. I was considering ordering the dry 3xml but before i invest in a similar light to the appearance of the skyray king, i’d rather invest in different appearance lights so my collection doesn’t look the same.

I am looking for the best bang for the buck.

here is a list that i put together from the hours of reading. This list is nothing more than brands & models of lights mentioned in other threads, which I wrote down to make a list. maybe this list will be helpful to others, maybe someone can recommend me a light from this list or recommend another light not on this list. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

for price i’m mainly interested in the $20-30 range. I will spend more for wow factor lights. I am anxiously awaiting the skyray king and the hd 2010. i’ve heard good reviews of the keygos m10 and ordered it just to see what it is like because it was only $19.99 with free shipping. that I can afford to experiement with. $60-80 lights are something that i’ll only buy if they are tried and true, and really a knock your socks off type of light. I was looking into the UF-980L but didn’t pull the trigger because it sort of looks like the hd 2010 and keygos m10. which on the same hand is why i didn’t order the dry because it is similar to the skyray king. What can i add that would make for a diverse flashlight collection

what do you guys think about the Solarforce L2P 3 mode blue edition
i notice some guys mention about how the sunray king is ugly because it is gold, where i find that having an all black light collection looks a little boring.

i like that the hd 2010 is gray and having a blue bodied Solarforce L2P might be a nice addition. any opinions on this?

but the venerable TrustFire X8 does certain things better than a good number of those lights. IMO, every flashaholic should have one to compare their latest lumen-blaster buck for buck to see what’s really what. Versatile (1 or 2, 18650’s), extremely well heat-sinked, puts out dern near 1,000 lumens OTF no BS (even on one 18650), and is generally built like a tank bow to stern. User-settable memory mode which once you have you tend to want in every light.

Here’s a recent ‘most underrated’ thread……

please elaborate on “User-settable memory mode which once you have you tend to want in every light. ”

I have heard of ‘hidden modes’, where a 1/2 press of the button will move you thru high-med-low, then back to high, but if you 1/2 press and hold for like 2-3 seconds, it will put the light into hidden strobe & sos. is that what you mean by the “user-settable memory mode”

also, in the below link, is this the light, or do you think it is a clone. in the description, it doesn’t mention anything special about the modes, it just says the usual hi-med-low-strobe-sos 5 modes.

are any of the knock off’s from dx any good? Do these have the special user memory mode that you mention?

I think buying a color can be really smart ..if it;s already a good light than color may be the thing that sets it apart in your own mind .

I think lots of people will tell you that they're general attraction towars one size .shape or type of light hasn't changed too much no matter how many lights they own ,, i'm startled how good my first instincts were from the beginning ...All I know after years of research is ..which ones are good and which ones are bad .So if you're a toilet plunger thrower guy ,or a C-8 guy You'll probably be one next year.....just find a good one like the xinTD and spend just a little bit more than a keygos ke-5.. Nicer build ,prettier body color, better knurling, better driver ,no strobe or flashies, good mode spacing ,soild pill, memory ..or no memory ,a better cicky that will handle the amperage ... ...Maybe get a tint too .Tongue Out

You should get a zebralight in NW if you need/want a headlamp. IMO the only premium lights which don’t have a budget substitute.

Simply put, let’s say you click on your X8 and it starts on high. You half-press the clicky until you get to strobe. Once it’s on strobe you half-press the clicky again but instead you hold it in half-pressed for about 5 seconds. You then turn off your X8. Then when you click it back on it comes on in strobe. You can do this with any of the 5 modes. So you have the flexibility to choose whatever mode you want to come on first when you want it. To me, that it is one faboo feature.

Regarding the clones mentioned. My X8 is definitely a genuine TrustFire as it came with the fancy magnetic box with foam cut-outs for the light, batts, etc., extra replacement parts such as a lens, tailcap switch, & assorted o-rings plus nice lanyard. I bought mine from DX and it was $52.80 including 2 protected TF Blue 18650’s. Additionally, it appears these clones do not include the option of the X8 running on only one 18650. The extension tube that gives that option comes with the DX version.

DX is now apparently selling two packaged versions. The $56.80 package includes a cheapo charger which needs to be loaded with two 18650’s to function properly - not good IMO. There are much better chargers like the Intellicharger i4 out there anyway. Chargers are akin to what grade of gas you put in your car. I won’t buy cheap gas that makes my car ping. I’d go with the $52.80 version.

Note the protective fancy foam cut-out box in both packages. Genuine TF X8’s come in those unless you buy a bare unit.

I do have however a bare unit coming in from AliExpress that supposedly is a genuine TF with the extension tube which allows 1 or 2 18650’s which ran $29. If it arrives as advertised IMO it’s a grand bargain. Personally, I would only buy a genuine TF X8 regardless of how good a clone appears. But that’s just me.

Some folks complain about running it with just one 18650 because it feels “off balance” with the heavy head. Well, if they held it mainly by the head part that issue goes away. Because the X8 is so well heat-sinked dispersed you’re not going to burn your fingers off either. Btw, that head is heavy because the pill is heat-conductive massive. You want that in a blazer.

Out of all the clones listed I would go with the FandyFire. My experience has been that they make a consistently solid unit. I attribute that to most likely tighter QC standards and perhaps better machining. Again bear in mind that those clones apparently don’t give you the option of running just one 18650. For extra runtime that’s important so you have to factor what you plan to do with the X8. Nonetheless, the X8 runs just as bright on one 18650 as it does with two.

Personally and all that said, I would only buy a genuine TrustFire X8 regardless of how good a clone appears.

Postnote….Of the clones you list only the FandyFire has mode memory. Whether it’s exactly the same as the TrustFire’s that I don’t know.

x8 cheaper here.

When I get this bare unit (without batts, fancy box, extra-lens, etc.,) and compare it to the real-deal I currently own then I’ll endorse the seller here assuming it’s the real-deal. That’s the only reason why I didn’t put the link in my post.

I've ordered some things from AliExpress. It took like 3.5 weeks to get to me. And then I seen the most ridiculous packaging job ever. Flashlight in a box with nothing around it. They bubble wrapped the outside of the box really well though.

To the OP... I'll recommend a Zebralight headlamp. If you don't own a headlight they are very useful. I wish I had those when I was spelunking as a young man. It beats carrying a 5 cell Maglite.

I just noticed agenthex said that already. So +1

You can try FP next time

thank you for the suggestion on a headlamp to diversify my growing collection. I already own a 3xAAA cree headlamp, although it is not near the quality of the Zebralight headlamp. The inexpensive headlamp that i currenly own is good enough to keep me satisfied for now. I’m mostly interested in suggestions for standard handheld torches. I am very interested in the suggested X8, but i’m going to hold off until I hear back from the member who ordered from Aliexpress to know if the Aliexpress x8 is genuine or fake. I will also look into the XinTd, any other suggestions for fun quality budget flashaholic handheld lights? I’d still like to order 4-5 more lights. Suggestions appreciated.

hesitate to get one besides the X8. I own one with NW tint, and Hi, Med, Low modes. Very nicely finished as well. A flashaholic must have IMO.

The X8 has a touch more oomph OTF and can also accomodate 2x18650’s for longer runtimes, can be used as a persuasive defensive baton with two batts in it which IMO is always a nice option to have should you ever need it.

I anxiously await upon said X8.

Lumatic, do you have an idea when your aliexpress x8 should arrive. I’d like to hear from you regarding if it is real trustfire or fake clone before buying the same. I am on a budget as most are, so the savings of buying from aliexpress would be great permitting it is the real deal.
