Looking for suggestions to light paint buildings or large structures. Light needs to be neutral or slightly warm (4000-5000K), good throw to150 yds, not too floody beam, no stepdown from turbo for at least 20-30 seconds. On/off + ramping switches, on-flashlight charging ports are both pluses but not deal breakers. So far have checked out Sofirn BLF Q8 and SPF 36 Anduril BLF plus Wurkkos TS30. I know there are many more but I only have so much time to research. Samples of what I've done so you get the idea...
Those are good looking photos. They appear to be highly edited. You can’t get that sort of lighting with a single or even many flashlights. Is the goal to just light up one portion of a building properly so that you can use that as a template to edit the rest of it. Or are you trying to light the whole thing and then just editing the hotspot?
Thanks Oli! What I do is light a section of a building at a time, usually a 5-20 second exposure each. Then I take all the photos and create a layer for each in photoshop. That way I can tweak settings in each, then merge into a single image.
What I need is a light bright enough so I don’t have raise ISO (and noise) in camera.
Well, I'm not using anything right now as my most powerful light died a while back (NoCry Spotlight). I have an Alphatek zoomable flood to spot 2800 lumen with XM-L2 LED, but it only works close to subject. It has a white light, not sure of the Kelvin but I suspect above 5000K. So I'd like something with more throw, less flood and warmer color. Looking for something I can get as a package (light, battery, charger/cable). Not ready to do custom light right now. Convoy mentioned above looks great but I have to order battery (which is more complicated than I thought) plus a charger. Plus I want to keep it under $70. Maybe I'm asking too much...new to this and I could spend a LOT of time here but can't. Amazing LED technology!
Thanks for the info Robbie, I found the Convoy M-3 4200K at Banggood for $40 and in the US, so it’ll only take 3-7 business days. I do need to buy the cells/charger separately, so I’ll need to get them via Amazon or somewhere in the US so I won’t wait a month. Suggestions welcome…
Jim
M3-C has onboard USB charging, so you don’t need a charger…
BTW: i always thought and praticed light painting as a one shot performance by one or more ‘painters’ while the camera is open and collecting light. This is an interesting way using stacking here. Your pictures have something of an HDR effect to them.
Pat, I’ve done light painting that way, but using multiple exposures gives me more time and creativity (with only myself if necessary) to light what I want, then customize it. I can also preview the photos on my phone/ipad using Camranger. An amazing photographer/friend taught me the Photoshop technique several years ago.
