Nice job on the filter, I’ve occasionally just wrapped a red balloon or similar color semi transparent material over lights and it works ok since most of my lights put out more than enough light to walk around with.
However I’m thinking about a red luxon or something led to rig up as a tail light on my bike with a nice diffuser to keep it from blinding people. I’d rather not keep buying batteries for cheap little blinkies at all so if I can move to all lion or lithium based cells then I’ll have an overall lower running cost than I’ve had with alkaline’s (With more light and better run-time too.). A broken bone can cost hundreds so even If I spend a few bucks on my lights I’ll be well below what it would be if I had a injury from viability.
Hey nice job. There is heat-resistant film that will not — well — be affected by heat. They use it in the big studio lights in Hollyweird. Don’t know where to get it though.
The $3.50 red filter from the astronomy guy fits behind the sipik lens and so far has been unaffected by heat. It alters the focus a hair, but you can still perfectly focus on the emitter by just backing off on the focus a bit.

What is interesting is how “directional” and controlled the red light is. It’s like it doesn’t spill out everywhere and you must point it at what you want to see. It’s hard to explain, but it’s not simply having a dim torch.

I believe that maglight does or did make a filter set for their AA lights. Filters for their AA lights fit the sk68 perfectly …. SO if you can find a set in the UK, you could be set. I got the red only because I needed just the red.
I make audio cables and ship all over the world, especially a lot to the UK and Germany. Postage for one of those filters from the u.s. to the UK (or other EU countries) should be about $2 for two ounces, but I don’t know what the astronomer guy is charging.
Maybe look in the UK ebay for local sellers of similar filters?
He’s charging $6.16 which is nearly £4 after conversion! But it’s good to know about it anyway.
I’m happy with this SK-68 now so I won’t bother looking for a filter for the Tank007 (it’s so small anyway I wonder if one exists; I only found wands), and I didn’t like the beam shots of the Xeno E03 either so I won’t be getting one of those.
One thing I did notice was the light was quite nice with just the red filter and no aspherical lens, so a thicker lens might be good for that, provided I can remove the glass lens.
I can see your predicament. Either you pay a ridiculous price for a custom light, or the others don’t meet all the features you want. There’s a special edition of the Ti Thrunite called the Firefly that touts 0.04 lumens on the lowest setting. I believe it is relatively hard to find now, but would that be dim enough? Unfortunately it’s not a NW tint though.
