There are a lot of these wf501 style lamps out there for about 13$.
My brother likes mine very much but it’s so bad quality that I had to fix led and switch and the threads are not good either.
So Before he orders one of the sets on eBay which will burn his house down I decided to buy him a nice xml lamp and a charger and so on. Charger will be xstar or so and the battery will be a Panasonic ncr18650a or B, depending on supplier.
Budget should be about 20$ for the lamp, I think for 5$ more the Chinese could make a good light…
Any tips for a nice lamp with not such a big head and good heatsinking.
The c12 has too big head, he wants a wf501 like lamp.
Is there a good wf501 out there, which has good quality?
Or a light with this form factor without this freaky insert?
My 501 had a p7 in it and burned out after I cleaned the threads and put a Panasonic cell in… So you see I would not have a good feeling for such a lamp.
Or should I buy a p60 pill and build one myself for one of these cheapo lights?
Solarforce L2(?) - series. Check them out at www.solarforce.hk and google them for info. I’ve been pondering one or two myself as they are considered to be among the best of the P60 hosts available.

I really like my fake Solarfore L2 from Lightake for $9.30 (it's about same as a WF-504 I believe). Solid build quality and a nice firm switch. It's my only P60 host right now, although I am eyeing up a Solarforce L2N, althought it's forward clicky and doesn't tailstand.
With that fake L2 I also ordered their generic 3 mode XM-L drop-in (only $6.99 now), but it came as a 5 mode. It's 3+ amps on high (think its direct-drive on high) and pretty nice despite the flashly modes. If you want a nice regulated drop-in, I just spotted a 2.8A XM-L at I/O built on the Nanjg 105c, but it's $19.71.

Here is the one I had/have its a 501, cnq normally has good quality. For 10$ I get a pill a u3and a 2.8A driver, and he would have a csi style uv lamp on top :bigsmile:
That would perfect fit my budget… But I have doubts because mine broke 2 times…
Quite hard to get a decent 501b. Sounds like you want one with decent build quality, I advise to skip 501b as it is a lottery buying from anywhere.
This 504b (solarforce L2 with tailstanding cap) is of very good quality - same P60 style as 501. It’s very solidly built, 5 mode with working memory, with a real XML U2 in there. It’s within your budget. The best thing is that you don’t have to change anything, it’s quite complete as it is.
I think you get what you pay for to a certain extent. I have some budget lights (Ultra OK, SIPIK (or clone of), Small Sun) and some more premium lights such as EagleTac, Klarus and Crelant. And the quality difference is immediately obvious.
You’re right. Similar pricing too, the difference being LM’s one is a complete build. Though, I’d still go with LM, I have one and it’s a real U2. This vs Lightake T6 drop-in picture that’s showing an XR-E.
Yeah, the Lightake drop-in photo and specs suck. The 3 mode came as a 5 mode and the OP reflector was really an SMO. I agree the complete build from Lightmalls is a better deal.
My advice is get a real Solarforce. The difference in build quality is worth every penny. Solarforce is miles ahead of the cheap clones. They actually hold their value unlike the clones.
I have bought a bunch of torchs from this seller. He is actually a Citipower Rep. I have had great luck with Citipower products. The one I like, and have purchased many for presents in the 502b. You have to bid on them, but pay no more than 10.50 US for one. I have bid on them, and got them for as cheap as 8 dollars US. They are very well built, small head, good throw and also good spread. I love them for the price, and are very bright. You can carry one in your pocket all day, and no problems. Here is a link to the Ebay seller, and you want to bid on the 502b, they call them the Citipower X5-T6. You can actually do a search on the whole Ebay website, and just type in: X5-T6 and it will give you all the listings. The Citipower ones are way better than the Ultrafires of the same model, FYI. An whatever P60 sized drop-in (one, three, or five mode, XML emitter I’m guessing)sounds good to go with it… might run a couple dollars over what you wanted but it will be solid as a rock in your hand.
Original solarforce would be ok but I think, shipping is only 2$ :bigsmile:
But now the point is, l2p with p60dropin or another model l2n has the switch. Coming out, is that not bad for having this light in a jacket…accidentally switching on?

Another question how does this forward clicky switch modes? Isn’t it just good for momentary on and will than switch through modes?
