Remove lens from 27w LED driving light?

Hello, I’m new here. I’m wondering in anyone has experience with the 27w LED lights? I’m trying to figure out how to remove the lens from one without breaking it. There are no screws so I’m thinking it either snaps into place or is held with an adhesive. I put pressure on one last night with a screwdriver but it didn’t budge.

This person (Are Drivers Really Needed? 12v 9 LED Lamp) removed the lens from the round version of this type of light and it looks clean…no adhesive residue. My lights are square with 9 LEDs.

Thank you.

Welcome to BLF, qfkeon!

At a guess they are press fit with little ridges on the lens holding them in place. I would try pushing a plastic pry tool like those sold for cellphone repair to get some leverage, they should pop out.

Are the backs plastic?

Thanks for the reply. The housings are cast metal.

Have you tried removing the brackets?

Yes, the brackets were not installed when new…‘some assembly required’. There are no holes, screws, or other clues in the housings. As far as I can tell they are built from the front. These lights are very popular but I haven’t found anyone who has opened one up. I don’t want to break a lens, but I’m going to try a bit more force to see what happens.

I think a butane torch on the edges would do the trick

I had considered heat too if a bit firmer pry-job doesn’t yield results. I don’t want to melt the plastic so I like the butane idea over propane.

People actually put car headlights in the oven to remove the sealing to mod. ;D

Any suggestion on a temperature setting for the oven?

when I was younger I opened my car’s headlights using a heat gun. They were sealed with a black sticky rubber. I doubt your lights use this compound to seal the plastic lens, but who knows…
