Bought a pair of these from DX, and was wondering if the semi clear coating needs to come off? Please see pictures and link, thanks.
Don’t remove it. It keeps the protection circuit from shorting on the battery tube.
Wow, I was SO CLOSE to removing it, thanks so much for the quick reply, it looks so wrong:
That metal strip running down the side is part of the circuit. I kind of like the clear wrapping as it lets you inspect it for shorts or irregularities.

I just received my first set of 18650s (same panasonics and same i4 charger) and wondered the same thing… good thing i asked the seller before trying to remove it…. whew…
