Removing the 3 min timer constraint on high of Fenix E05 (85 lumen edition) possible?

I need to find a replacement of my old ITP A3 EOS Upgrade and I’m looking at Fenix E05 85 lumen 3-mode edition which seems to be a nice alternative. I like the E05’s slightly higher Medium level (25 lumen) compared to Olight i3s medium @ 20 lumen.

But the 3 min timer constraint on the E05 is what keeps me from buying it. I won’t want to use a light that dims in 3 mins while I’m walking in the woods at night and I need clear vision to see far away. Is there a way to workaround this (mod)?

If not I wonder if there’s any other comparable 3-mode key chain 1AAA w/ High around 80 lumens and Med around 25 –35 lumens?

Contaced Fenix a couple of days ago,

and they mentioned when they ran the ANSI test in the lab they disabled the E05 3 min timer (on high) to produce the 45min/1h runtime result for high mode.

So it looks like they were able to run the E05 on high continuously (in order to get the ANSI test result) w/o any problem. And their response tells me there’s a way to disable the 3 min timer.

Don’t know how accurate this info is from Fenix customer support, but some folks might be interested to look into the E05 and confirm this… .

I think it’s fair to assume that you can only disable the timer by removing all the modes. That would be a perfectly normal thing to do during testing…

Would turn this disappointing light into something nice.

Hopefully, the fix will work on the LD02 as well.

Why does Fenix spoil an otherwise good light like this in the first place? There is absolutely NO NEED to have that stepdown.

Wish I’d found this thread before buying mine. Haven’t needed more than lo or medium, just been using hi to impress the troops. I use mine mostly for ‘handy and quick’ light at work. If it needs more light I grab a bigger one so I never ran into this or I would have bought something else :expressionless: If it didn’t smoke at ANSI, why can’t they sell it to us that way?
