Repairing old Coast Digitac switch

I have an old Coast Digitac II, and the switch has finally given up. It clicks but doesn’t conduct. If I short the battery to the body, it lights up.

I can’t figure out how to get into the tailcap to clean out the switch. I’ve tried to turn the gold ring with pliers but it won’t budge either way. Any ideas?

May not be an ultra lumen monster but its got character and is very rugged.

Anyway, call Coast. That light has a lifetime warranty. They’ll send you a switch for $5 to cover S&H (IIRC).

I got a new HP5 anyway…

I may send it in, but I still think repair would be more fun; is this epoxied or soldered together, maybe?

Well, they kinda look like screws. More like pressed in pins even though they appear to have slotted heads. It’s a tuff switch to mess with becuz of that. Btw you don’t have to send anything in. They should just send you a new switch.
