Replacement battery little shorter than original?

Recently I received an IF30 from Sofirn with its crappy 32650 battery. First I replaced it with a Samsung 40T which is slightly longer than the 32650. Since I needed that battery for another light I put in a high drain 26650 from Efest which off course is shorter than the 21700 but also shorter than the original 32650 from Sofirn. The light works properly, even when shaking it while it’s on but the compresssion on the spring when tightening the tailcap is remarkably less than with the other batteries. Does a battery need some compression from the spring to work properly or is just making proper contact, even when shaking the light, enough to operate safely?

Just needs to make contact. The fact the light functions uninterrupted while “shaking” it indicates you have plenty of tension from the taicap spring, which is a good thing considering the measly solid post on that driver.

What was crappy anout the 32650.

The battery is a very low CDR (IIRC it was 5A), on this light when using the flood channel it draws way more current than it is rated for. It can heat up the battery to the point of being unsafe.

The flood channel is unregulated FET so it also loses output from using the 32650 instead of a higher powered 26650 or 21700. I would’ve preferred it to use a 26800 instead, those have similar capacity and go to 25A CDR.

What YBF650 said; the battery can’t handle the performance of the light. The battery itself isn’t that bad but it is just not suitable since the IF30 takes about 37 amps at turbo from off. The 32650 can only deliver about 6,5 amps…
