My nitecore MH25s has started playing up over the past few days so I’m looking for a replacement. On the whole I"ve been very happy with this flashlight as I like quite a long throw, however my wife has the Nitecore P20ix and I do sometimes wish I had a bit more flood. The P20ix doesn’t have enough throw for me though.
Now I’m likely searching for the Holy Grail that doesn’t exist but is there anything out there that similar to the MH25s but with more flood?
I initially looked at the MH25 Pro as that’s the obvious replacement but from what I can gather the MH25 Pro has more throw so I’d expect it to have less flood than the MH25s, would I be correct in my thinking? I did see a comparison video but it didn’t really show the flood/spill very well, and from the video the hot spot has more defined edges which is not my preference.
I’ve looked at a host of different flashlights and I’ve narraowed it down to the following:-
Fenix PD36R ACE
Fenix TK22 TAC
Fenix PD40R V3.0
Nitecore P23i
and the MH25 Pro isn’t completely off the cards still.
Does anyone have any opinions or experience on the above and can offer some advice please? 99% of the time I run the MH25s. I don’t need a tactical flashlight so it needs to have the option of an EDC
First, i’d contact Nitecore, they might fix the issue even if it’s outside warranty and they might ask you to pay for transportation.
I have a MH12Pro (MH25Pro’s smaller bro) and i really like the simplicity of the Ui, build quality, great pattern, it remembers strobe and while strobe is memorized (or anytime actually) you can press both buttons to enter moonlight.
The new Nitecore LEDs have greener tint compared to the older CREE leds.
If strobe matters, most Fenix won’t have memory for strobe and require a 0.5-1.5 press. There are exceptions like PD35R that has a dedicat button instead.
I love my MH25. But my daughter confiscated it for her own use. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with the Sofirn SC31 pro. It doesn’t throw as far, but the ability to find it in a dark hotel room because the on/off button is a green led, ability to charge via USB, budget price and Anduril O/S are all winners.
If you’d like a light without sharp light cutoffs, you may like TIR lights. The Convoy M21H is a good cheap option. And with a 3° TIR and XHP50.3 Hi it will throw similar to your nitecore.
