Replacing batteries - robotic auto vacuum cleaner

Hi guys,
my mother is sad, cuz the battery pack on this device died http://www.robotsamba.com/en/
So now i’m in the project of replacing that batteries. First i measured them, it says 22mm in diameter and 42mm in length.
Secondly i found this data sheet http://www.robotsamba.com/manual.en.pdf where it says that rated voltage is 14.4V, rated power < 24W, input voltage/current 24V—–1A, battery capacity is 2200mah.

So now, what are the best nimh’s i could fit in here? They don’t have to be the exact same type/size of batteries, just so that they fit in the space for them. Could i put in a few eneloops, or what would you do?

They seem like sub- c batteries, let me check

Yes, they are
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?\_trksid=m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0&\_nkw=Sub+c+batteries&\_sacat=0&\_from=R40

so if i buy these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-rechargeable-Sub-C-SubC-With-Tab-2900mAh-Ni-MH-Battery-Orange-cell-pack-/151057100564?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_Batteries_SM&hash=item232bb46f14 i should be ok?

2900 mAh, lol

Yes, you should be fine.

Please be careful while welding them together though.

Thank you guys, you will make my mum very happy

They actually could well be 2900mAh.

Non LSD Ni-Mh AA’s have capacities over 2700mAh, and these sub-C cells have a greater volume than AA’s.

Actually all those linked ebay cells are total garbage.
The ni-mh are useless and ni-cd have like 400 mAh capacity if any.
If you wanted to be serious, your best replacement would be 5 Lifepo 26650, but the question is if you want to be serious with a device that is nonsense itself in the first place.

Are they comparable to those Ultrafire 4000mAh 18650’s?

I think charging would become a major issue. I'd stick with nimh. A different type, so long as it fits and adds up to the same voltage.

Or you could use Tenergy C sized cells. Although they’re slightly bigger, I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. http://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Size-capacity-Rechargeable-batteries/dp/B001AX1UQO

I see a theory speaking. IF Sanyo made them it could be possible but even than they would be crap as all those hi-cap rapid self-discharge ni-mh.
Please get some cheap chinese ebay cells and than speak.

Yeah, I didn’t realize that the quality of those cells were so bad. :frowning:

did the measurements and 5x18650 lifepo should fit unlike 26650. Smaller capacity, but longer life. The charging circuit is unknown. Should be checked and observed first.
Sticking with Sub-C cells is possible of course, but you have to source the cells from some reputable place. Soldering those 16 little things is something I’d myself want to avoid.
Maybe not being lazy and vacuum clean with something serious that won’t just make all the dust airborne is the best solution.

It’s a cute vacuum cleaner. But maintenance looks like a chore, with lots of parts to clean:

I was at Frys Electronics today looking thru their battery section and they sell some cells that literally say exactly “Robotic Auto Vacuum ” as well as RC Car and Electric Drill with pictures of all three……They looked to be about C sized- I thought that’s what this post was about!

Soldering should not be a problem if you buy them with tabs already soldered, then you have to solder directly tab to tab, and you won’t have to solder directly to the battery. I think your best bet is to buy some sub c with tabs, and you won’t have problems with charging, size, modifications, etc

MORE POWER!

so which ones are of good quality, that wont die in a few days?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-pc-Tenergy-Propel-Sub-C-3000mAh-SubC-NiMH-Rechargeable-Batteries-w-Tabs-/290604862301 are these close to 3000mah?
