Retro eveready resurection

Flashaholics,

A couple days ago I was sifting some debris of the past to make room for debris of the future when I stumbled across an old 2C Eveready flashlight my grandfather gave me in my undergrad days. It came from his tool box and went directly into mine. The years had not been kind and the body was covered in rust splotches. The old alkalines had not leaked but contributed to internal rust. The guts were toast but the switch still worked. A small evil thought crept in to my small evil head. Could I resurrect the old girl with some stuff I had laying around? Elbow grease and WD-40 solved the rust issue to my satisfaction.

The pill was the remains of a DX V8 drop in combined with an XP-G R5 and the 800ma boost driver from Fasttech. Because I was using a cut down incan mag reflector I had to make a pedestal on the pill to properly focus the beam. The beams unholy ugliness was fixed with a stippling a la Old Lumens.

Some switch mods and miscellaneous tinkering and the results are final.

It works!

I think I may take it uptah camp and put it at the head of grandpa’s bunk.

That’s a pretty cool looking flashlight! Nice work on the conversion.

Love it! That’s awesome!

Nice job! How does it handle the heat?

love it.

good job, I really want to get hold of sone retro lights to mod, I like your conservative style too, at 800ma it’ll still blow away an old 3v incan too.

JohnnyMac,

Considering the hollow pill, the thin steel body, and the need to insulate the pill from the body with non-conductive material I suspect heat management isn't great. Hence the conservatively driven emitter.

That is a great looking light. It’s cool to see people making these old lights better than new.

Nice looking mod. I have always wanted to play around with one of those huge old 6D lights, but have never done it. The light looks really nice.
