[Review] Convoy M21J || Luminus SBT 90.2 , 2 x 21700, TIR || Output measurements and outdoor beamshots

That’s unexpected, perhaps you received a sample from a different production process or Vf bin compared to the one tested by koef3? This has already been happening with the SFT25R.

I just tested 6 units and only 2 of them tested 4800+, while the others were around 4200 - 4300. I wonder if Simon has mixed bins.

I think Hank’s Noctigon K1 is far better than both of those. 5200 lumens and 540 kcd.( mine) Which reminds me I don’t think the OP measured the CD / throw on this light.
I will check again.

Confirmed…No CD/ Throw measurements.

I installed an NV1010 in my M21J, it’s a monster. But, I do agree it is borderline dangerous. I tried to communicate this to Mr Simon but I don’t think he understood. I was trying to convince him to at least have only tabless cells available for it and advised to use only tabless. With the NV1010, it never drops lower than about 3500 Lm. While I love it and am all for it, this is dangerous to someone unfamiliar.

His response (which I think none of us agree):
The main reason the M21J flashlight gets too hot is that its power is too high, and the head of the flashlight is a bit too small.
The driver circuit in the M21J flashlight was originally designed for the L6 and L7.

Just looking at this product you’d think it would essentially be an M21K that takes 2 * 21700 but apparently nothing could be further from the truth.

Is there a way to make an M21K that takes 2*21700 that doesn’t have these problems?
