[Review] Convoy T2 || 1x14500 / 1xAA, Nichia 219C || Output Measurements and Power Regulation Graphs

The flashlight was sent to me by FlashlightBrand for review.

The flashlight arrived in a normal cardboard box.
The box contained a lanyard and a detachable metal clip.

The Convoy T2 comes with black anodization and it uses a single AA / 14500 cell.

It comes with a slick body design.
A diamond cut grooving is present to increase the grip on the light.

It's operated via a tail mounted, forward clickie, mechanical switch.
The switch boot is recessed under the two metal flaps of the tail, and thus the flashlight can tailstand.

One of the tail's metal flaps contain two holes to allow for the installation of a lanyard.

A smooth bezel is present on the front of the light.

Looking into the head, we can see an orange peel reflector along with a perfectly centred Nichia 219C emitter.
Cree XP-G2, Nichia 219B and Nichia 519A variables are also available.

The rear side of the head houses the driver, which is held in place via a brass retainer.
The switch uses a brass metal tab as the positive terminal and supports both AA and 14500 cells.

As with almost any Convoy flashlight, the head can be easily disassembled.
A nice detail is the use a green GITD o-ring.

Here's a closer look at the emitter.
There's some flux residues, but the actual soldering looks good.

The tail houses a thick copper spring which is held in place via a brass retainer.

Here's the tail taken apart.

Both the front and rear threads are cleanly cut.
The rear threads are also anodized, which allow the flashlight to get mechanically locked out.

As already mentioned, a metal clip is also included with the flashlight.
The clip is easy to install/uninstall and provides good retention.

Finally, a little mod I did on this light was to install a lighted tail switch along with a transparent rubber boot.
Here's the results.

User Interface

The convoy T2 uses a very simplistic User Interface.
Here's all the actions supported by the flashlight's driver:

Turn on/off: Single press
Mode cycle: Half press (1% > 10% > 35%> 100% > 1% > ...)

Mode memory is present.
The flashlight will cut-off at 2.7V when it's running on a 14500 / LiIon cell.
For a regular AA / NiMH cell, the cutoff happens at 0.8V.

Output

Here's my output measurements for the flashlight while running on a 14500 cell.

As we can seem the Convoy T2 pushes around 400 lumen of 90CRI light on its Turbo mode.
It's not an output monster, but the light output is more than enough for day to day tasks!

Power Regulation

Here's a power regulation graph using an 14500 cell.

The graph shows that the output current is proportionate to the input voltage of the 14500 LiIon cell.
No sings of regulation can be seen.
And here's a power regulation graph for an AA / NiMH cell.

Here's what we can see in the graph:

Turbo is regulated down to 1.1V
High, Medium and Low are fully regulated for the whole span of battery's voltage.

Wall Beamshots

Finally, here's a GIF with wall beamshots of the light when running on a 14500 cell.
The shots are taken with locked ISO and shutter speed. Their intention is to help you understand mode spacing - they're not meant to visualise the real output of each mode.

Thanks for making this review. Is the illuminated tail switch the one that Convoy sells? I assume it only works on 14500, right?

Regulation is a characteristic I’m usually interested in, so thanks for checking it.

I obtained those illuminated tail switches a long long time ago. I can’t really recall where I got them from, but I think I also got a red illuminated switch from Convoy.
If you’re interested, I can try it out to verify whether it also works alright with the Convoy T2.
And yes, the switch only lights up when a 14500 cell is used.

Curious to know where you got the transparent silicone switch boot that you used. I got mine from KD, but it was a very tight fit and had to extend the Omten switch button in order for it to function correctly: T2 mod.
