REVIEW: Gearbest stock Uniquefire UF-1503 and UF-1505 XM-L2

Big thank you to Gearbest for sending me a UF-1503 and UF-1505 by Uniquefire to review for everybody here.

The light arrived in typical plain box. Nothing to really show there. The anodizing is good with no major flaws. Specs can be found on Gearbest’s website.

Starting at the tail, it does not tail stand. It comes with a wanna be Omten switch. It really wants to be a good switch, but it isn’t. I’ve burned multiple of these in the past driving the LED’s hard. If this light is kept stock, it should be adequate, but it will need to be replaced if the light is modified.

On to the rest of the light. Just like the UF-1504, Uniquefire tried to stretch an O-ring too much. The O-ring on the bezel broke as soon as I unscrewed it. It is stretched so tight that any little nick or pressure will break it. The lens is 50mm. The threads aren’t square, but the threads and O-rings are lubed and tighten easily. There is a slight wobble in the head when not fully zoomed in or out.

The pill is aluminum with a brass ring in the driver section to solder the driver. The strange thing is there are no divots on the pill to use to unscrew it. The pill is designed the same as the UF-1504, just smaller. It has a retaining ring to keep the LED snug and in place. The LED is centered. The pill is reverse threaded and unscrews Left to Right. The driver is a 5 mode driver with memory. High, Medium, Low, Strobe, SOS.

Below is a picture of the XM-L2 emitter beam on a wall. I tested the light using a freshly charged Sony VTC5 18650. I did not measure amperage but will add it later. At 6 feet, the light put out 16000 lux which calculates to 53.5kcd on high.

Overall, this is a good host for modding. It has a smaller lens so it will never put out the numbers of the UF-1504, but has the potential to be decent light. The stock driver has blinky modes like the SOS and strobe that I don’t find useful (plus I hate having to switch through them to get back on high. The light handles well in the hand. It isn’t too being, it isn’t too small. For the price, I don’t know if there is a better zoomie aspheric lens light in this size.

The light arrived in typical plain box. Nothing to really show there. The anodizing is good with no major flaws. Specs can be found on Gearbest’s website. This is the replacement for the UF-T20.

The tail cap on the 1505 does not tail stand either. See the review above. It has the same switch which is OK for a stock light, but would need to be replaced if the flashlight is modified.

The tube had lubed threads and O-rings. Like most aspherical zooming flashlights, there is slight wobble in the head between fully zoomed in and fully zoomed out. The O-ring on the bezel didn’t break when I unscrewed it! The head on this light unscrews off toward the tail and not toward the lens, which is different from the UF-1504 and UF-1503. The lens is 38mm. The threads aren’t square, but everything screws on easily.

The pill is the same brass pill as UF-T20. There is a paper protector over the PCB. There is a plastic piece that snaps in over the PCB. The LED is centered. The pill is regular threaded and unscrews Right to Left. The driver is a 5 mode driver with memory. High, Medium, Low, Strobe, SOS.

Below is a picture of the XM-L2 emitter beam on a wall. I tested the light using a freshly charged Sony VTC5 18650. I did not measure amperage but will add it later. At 6 feet, the light put out 8100 lux which calculates to 27kcd on high.

Overall, I really like this light. It is underpowered in stock form like most flashlights from China. However, I think this light is much better looking compared to the UF-T20. It is light, handles easily, and has potential if modified. I still hate blinky modes. For the price, I think this light is a very good buy, especially if you drop in a new driver.

Thanks for the informative review. You can tell it is done from a modder's point of view, exact the right information for modders, and the grossly underperforming stock-situation seems not much a concern to you

In my 1406 shorty (=1503) using a dedomed xpg2 r5 on dd I got 235kcd, but with a better bin xpg2 you may get more.

I got a 1505 on order, what is the effectively used lens diameter of this light? The uft20 has 32mm, is this the same?

Whatcha mean? The ID of the front bezel is almost 36mm. So it can use up to that. There is only approx a 2mm lip on the lens, which realistically makes the aspherical part 34mm. That answer your question? If you want to know the ID of the head where the lens sits, I’d have to measure it.

On the 1503, I can’t break 200kcd to save my life with a dedomed XM-L2. It’s better with the XP-G2, but I want 200kcd with the XM-L2. Highest I’ve gotten is 193kcd.

It answers my question :-) , so the lens diameter is then 6% bigger than the UF-T20, good for 12% more throw, always nice !

Very nice review. The 1503 is a good-sized handheld light and the throw is better than I expected, compared to the 1504. Can’t wait to see how 3.5x the stock lux performs.

Thanks for the review. You may of mentioned it and I missed it but does it have mode memory? The 1505 that is.

I’ll have to double check but I’m pretty sure it had mode memory

Are you able to measure flood beam angle and maybe take a flood beamshot? I know for most people zoomies are all about throw, not for me. I’m much more interested of the other end

I will try to get a flood beam angle and beamshot when I get back home in a few days.

i just saw this. Thanks.

GB has terrible unregistered post. It seems it goes by ground mail. After more than 50 days I still don't see my 150threes

But their registered post (NL POST) is very fast but if you are from EU you'll probably pay tax.And if you want to avoid it unregistered is best option but you could die waiting.

So once again GB has really really slow unregistered post(similar as fasttech when sending batteries with ground mail). It is so slow that I will try my luck with 1503 elsewhere next time.

So how does the 1505 compare to the uf-t20?
My father-in-law tested my uf-1504 with xpg2 (with dome, direct drive), and my uf-t20 with a dedomed xm-l2 and wanted one of each. but as I’m curious about the uf-1505 i thought about modding one of those for him instead of a uf-t20. Maybe I’ll try a noctigon soldered directly to the pill, not sure about xp-g2 or xp-l HI though.

is any of the uf-t20 or uf-1505 better than the other one?
