Packaging
The packaging of the Moonbox 3.0 is kept simple. It is just a plain box with a viewing window. No performance details are provided on the packaging.

The package includes instructions, a lanyard, and a very short USB-C charging cable.
Design

Despite its futuristic design, the light has a surprisingly elegant look. One side features a curved, diffuse surface behind which the RGB LEDs are located. The controls and display are arranged on one of the short sides.
The Moonbox 3.0 feels absolutely great in titanium and looks like a very solid block of metal, almost like a solid ingot. The finish is velvety yet rough enough to ensure a secure grip.
In combination with titanium, this is also one of the light’s greatest strengths, it looks elegant and solid and feels great in handling. The quality is flawless and leaves nothing to be desired. There are no noticeable gaps or other flaws.
The white LED and the UV LED are located in OP reflectors, although a TIR lens would be a better solution for the main LED, especially in conjunction with a domeless emitter. A ZWB2 filter is not used for the UV LED.
The bar-shaped design keeps the light securely in place and tailstand is also possible without any problems.

There are three controls: two buttons and a slide switch. The slide switch feels rough, but it clicks neatly into place in the three possible switch positions. It should be noted that the slide switch is a magnetically operated switch, which ensures water resistance.
The arrangement of the controls on one side makes it easy to hold and operate the light with either the left or right hand.

The small OLED display is located on the switch side and is covered by the hand when operating the light. It’s a good idea, but one that hasn’t been thought through consistently - no precise voltage or percentage readings or light flux data are displayed, and the battery level indicator is also quite imprecise since it only shows a few steps of discharging. In this respect, it’s unfortunately wasted potential.

Battery and charging
A permanently installed lithium battery with 1500 mAh (according to manufacturer specifications) is used.
Although I don’t like built-in batteries, this one is probably replaceable, as there is a large cover with four screws on one side.

The battery is charged with 0.95 A and 4.8 W.
The RGB LEDs on the side serve as a charge level indicator in 10% increments, which is a nice touch and provides fairly good information about the current charge level.

The Moonbox 3.0 can be used during USB charging; there are no restrictions, although in high operating modes the battery will continue to discharge due to the limited power supplied via USB.
The Moonbox 3.0 does not have a power bank function.
UI
The UI is quite extensive and takes some getting used to. Nevertheless, it is not that complicated and is surprisingly useful in everyday life.
To turn the light off fast, just slide the side switch to the 3rd position (lockout), so all light modes turn off.

The lowest mode (Eco) is relatively bright. Once your eyes have adjusted to night vision, self-glare is to be expected. However, the brightness should be low enough for everyday tasks in dark environments.
LED and spectra data
One cool white emitter is installed in the Moonbox 3.0. It has a CRI of 70.
It is not clear what type of LED is used here. Based on the design, it is possibly a Latticepower TN3535. In any case, a 3535 footprint is used here.
The type of the UV LED is unknown. This LED is probably not from Nichia, Seoul, or Luminus.
The bezel is secured with four screws. Replacing the LED should therefore be possible without any problems, provided that suitable equipment is available.

The spectrum of the main LED is standard cool white. The main LED does not have high color rendering and uses classic YAG:Ce3+ phosphor. The chip seems to be a blue pump with a wavelength slightly below 440 nm. It is typically cool white with a slightly greenish spot, despite its negative duv. A domeless LED with 5000 K and/or high color rendering would be more suitable, also to enable a slightly longer throw.
The “white” of the side LEDs has an extreme blue tint with way over 20000 K and very poor color rendering. This is due to the mixture of the red, green, and blue colors of these side LEDs. There are no white LEDs with classic phosphor on the side that can produce white light; only the RGB LEDs without white were used.
The side LEDs have a wavelength of 465, 525 and 630 nm. The UV LED seems to have 365 nm wavelength.
The lasers have around 520 and 650 nm wavelength.
Measurements
There is very high-frequency PWM (more than 5 kHz) for main and side LED, but this is hardly visible, if at all, and if so, only when the light is moving very quickly. The light from the side LEDs is mixed very good and looks absolutely uniform.

It should be noted that due to the unusual spectrum, the luminous flux for the white mode of the side LEDs may be lower.
The luminous flux specified by the manufacturer was almost achieved. There is no reason for complaint due to possible inaccuracies/measurement errors.
Beamshots
The Moonbox 3.0 is not a thrower. This applies to both the main and side LEDs. It is not suitable for long-range use.
The side LEDs are also only suitable for close-range use, especially since their extremely cool white light color and very poor color rendering make them unsuitable for general lighting tasks.


Conclusion
The Moonbox 3.0 was tested here in the titanium version.
The great look and feel combined with the perfect weight are the biggest advantages of this version. The build quality is very good. There are plenty of possible combinations of the individual light modes. The combination of white main LED and laser can be particularly advantageous for guided tours in museums, lost places, etc.
The display is a nice gimmick, but unfortunately lacks options for displaying various data (voltage, luminous flux, etc.).
I am less fond of the extremely cold white light color of the side LEDs and the extreme step-down of the main LED to below 300 lm after one minute, but this might be necessary especially for the titanium variant. The blue-red police strobe is unnecessary and annoying when accidentally activated.
All in all, an interesting flashlight for collectors and anyone who wants a flat flashlight with many light modes in a very high quality titanium housing.
