Review of the Nitecore EDC07 flashlight/torch, a rectangular “TV remote” shaped 1,500 lumen light with 97CRI 3000K, 83CRI 4500K, and 73CRI 6500K output from dual quad-core LEDs.
Looking good until you realize that it’s made from plastic and will therefore heat-kill the LEDs over time.
Just one thing that destroys any value that I would see in a flashlight like that.
Interesting emitters, it would be nice if the CCT switching had a continuous mode.
The LEDs are mounted on a large heatsink and the temperature is monitored.
Can’t be too effective, from the review:
Step down starts almost immediately after turning the light on
Just dumping the heat into some heatsink works for a couple of minutes, but needs probably 30 Minutes to cool down again. Something like that is fine for flashlights that are used only short, like keychain lights, but not full size flashlights.

[/quote] Given that Nitecore produce many plastic shell headlamps that do not heat kill the LEDs, I’m sure the EDC07 will also not suffer from this issue.
If the brightness steps down almost immediately on turbo, then it seems there is no point of having turbo on this light other than to give the marketing team a deceptive “max brightness” number to put in the literature.
