[Review] Rofis MR50 (XHP-50.2, 21700, e-switch) ~ 22/09 Outdoor Beamshots Added

The flashlight was sent to me by RofisLight for review.

The flashlight arrived in a nice cardboard box.

Rofis tends to always include lots of accessories with their flashlights.
In the case of the MR50 you get the following: a carrying pouch, an adjustable wrist strap, a microUSB charging cable, a USB OTG adapter and a user manual.

The sheath is made out of nylon and it's well constructed.

It implements double belt loops and a hoop.

The MR50 follows the design line of the rest MR series flashlights by Rofis.
It's e-switch operated and the head/body assembly is a single piece, while there is knurling along the body and tail.

Opposite to the switch you get the charging port.

The protective rubber flap is quite thick and provides a snug fit.

I have always been a fan of Rofis' e-switch buttons - especially the ones used in the MR series.
The concave shape of the switch makes it very comfortable and easy to locate.
The switch is protected by a metal ring and it sits almost flush to the lip of that ring.

The threads are square cut and came prelubricated.
The tail implements a dual gold plated spring design which is mandatory due to the flashlight's power requirements.

Here's a look at the light's driver.
As I have noted, the head/body assembly is one continuous piece.

The Neutral White XHP-50.2 emitter sits inside an orange peel reflector which creates a wide hotspot.
The bezel is made out of polished aluminum and has a dark grey coating.

The light comes with a protected 21700 cell included.
The cell is Rofis branded and has 5000mAh of rated capacity.

It's flat top.

Here's the current that I recorded while charging the cell from my Xiaomi powerbank - the cell was half full.
With a fully discharged cell I recorded up to 1.9A of current so it's safe to say that the max charging current is set to around 2A.

Thanks to the included OTG adapter, the MR50 can also be used as a powerbank.
Using my RDTech UM34C meter and LD25 electronic load, I verified that the MR50 can output 2A of current.

User Interface

The MR50's interface is intuitive and quite easy to remember.
Here's the supported actions:

Turn on/off: Singe press.
Mode cycle: Long press while on ( Low > Mid > High ).
Turbo: Double press from any mode (on or off).
Location mode: While off, long press for 3 secs. The indicator LED will start blinking in red in 1 second intervals.
Lock / Unlock: While off, long press for more than 5 seconds. The light will flash a couple of times to indicate that the lock is engaged. Repeat for unlock.
Strobe: Triple press from anywhere.
SOS: Long press for 1 second while in Strobe mode.

Once the battery is inserted, the integrated indicator LED in the e-switch will light to indicate the charge level (Green: > 40%, Red: < 40%)
Also, once the battery's level gets low while in use, the indicator will start shining in red.

Performance

I took my measurements using the included Rofis branded 21700 cell.

Here's turbo compared to my other lights.

My tests showed that the MR50 is indeed pushing more than 2300 OTF lumens.
I also measured the pasatic drain, which turned out to be 165 – 215 μA.

Outdoor beamshots

As with most products by Rofis, the MR50 is a well thought out flashlight.
Its construction quality is great while it packs a lot of power.
After all, it's great seeing another manufacturer going the 21700 route!

All of the MR series flashlights follow the same design lines.
Both the MR50 and MR70 are one of the best choices in their respective category.

I chose to go with a 3000K XP-L HI so it’s possible that I have gotten a lower binned emitter.
Also, I have noticed that the meter I used in the L2 review measures quite a bit lower in super warm lights.

After my review, I modded the L2 with a regular 17mm fet driver and I am getting around 1300 OTF lumens

Hello! Great review!

This flashlight seems very attractive to me. I’m thinking of buying one or two. In the characteristics shows that in turbo makes two stepdown. How long does it take to do them?

The MR50 I was sent used a CW emitter. I believe there hasn’t been a NW version of this light so far!
