I, too, purchased this headlamp because of this review. I received it today, 12 days after I ordered (which, honestly, shocked the heck out of me).
As a quick once or twice over…
1. The output, in terms of temp and CRI, is no less than spectacular. While I haven’t yet had it outside at night, the output in a dark room is perfect.
2. It’s super easy to get to the hidden programming modes. I changed the turbo to a latching time of 20 seconds and turned the smooth transitions to ON.
3. There is a small crack on the bottom of the plastic covering. Not sure if this will affect the IPX6 rating or not, but said rating was one of my only apprehensions about purchasing this headlamp. I know there is an extra plastic face included, but I feel like I shouldn’t have to “lose” one right from the start.
4. The fit and finish - excepting for the small crack mentioned above - is excellent. The screw side with the magnet must be glued on, which makes the magnet probably unremovable. My sample has nothing like what I would term “sharp edges.” The ridges around the back of the light aren’t “smooth,” but they aren’t “sharp” either.
5. I’m using a green NCR18650 protected battery in it. The fit is spot on.
Edited to add:
6. The red LED is so dim, it is almost useless unless you have whatever you’re looking at sitting right on your nose.
Given what I’ve seen so far with this light, if YLP would put these emitters into the 3.0 or the 3R, I would be an instant purchaser!
