Been listening to Tom Petty radio on Sirius. They were saying he was was found by paramedics with a slight pulse, and taken to the hospital. No brain activity where they unplugged life support. Maybe he’s still hanging in there
Hated to hear this news. As a kid I recall our bus driver, who later got sent to prison for dealing drugs, would play the first tape given to him every morning. It was always a race between me giving him Full Moon Fever and this other kid who almost always got there before me with Ozzy’s No Rest for the Wicked.
I met him and his band under very odd circumstances. I was staying at a hotel in Burbank in 1980. I lived in the Northwest, but a wealthy friend of mine owned property in San Fernando, and his Bro. lived in Burbank.
We were all staying in a Hotel, along with his wife and her kid. We went down to the Bar, and there was supposed to be a live band. The band didn’t show, and didn’t show, finally in came Tom Petty and his band.
What was really strange, was that there were only about 7 people in the Bar, and three of us were among them. I talked to one of the band members and he said that in belonging to the Musicians Union, they were obligated to fill in, should the occasion arise, and they were “on call” that night. Wow, was that a crazy night. They only played a few songs, and mostly just hung out. We they did the minimum, then just packed up.
The one band members who I had been talking to, came over and invited me to come party with them. Honestly, I was just a small town hick, not ready for the “big time” so I declined saying we had an early morning appointment with the legal staff, ha, I was just scared.
