Romisen RC-G2

Please don’t laugh. This is my first flashlight mod. I had a bag with parts of 2 Romisen flashlights that quit working years ago. I tested the switch and determined it wasn’t working. I searched but could not find a switch to replace it. The only way I could figure out to get it working was to take the old switch out and drill out the switch to make a collar to hold a McClicky in. It doesn’t quite seal over the gasket but I’ll just use it inside. I then used what I’ve learned from this forum so far to remove the old LED and board, and I soldered in a 519 Nichia on a 16mm board. I love the tint. I’ve been over on CPF for a decade or so, just never tried to mod a light before.

YOOOOOO OLD SCHOOL!
I can’t remember, can these take p60 drop ins?

No, it’s just a AA tube. When my kids were growing up (mid to later 20’s now) I had a handful of these we would use while camping. Nostalgic for me.

RC-G2 was a banger of a light. I usually carried the RC-N3 for longer runtime, but they were all great for the price. Nice work.

Still see a few Romisen flashlights in the hands of stationary engineers and building maintenance technicians. Romisen had quite a lineup:

Minimum order of 100? I wonder how Shiningbeam was able to manage all those Romisen mods. Couldn’t get a warm/neutral X-PE Q3 from DealExreme back in the day.

Yeah I like those old school designs but MOQ 100 is a bit rich for me lol!

Ah glad to see one of these updated with a modern LED!

One would imagine the 519a paired with the large, OP reflector produces a very nice beam.

Despite having been around CPF and this forum for many years, I’ve never owned a RC-G2- by the time I decided I wanted one, they were unavailable from anywhere.

I guess in some respects the convoy T8 is largely a modern equivalent, it would be cool to see the two compared.

WB, ecally!
I remember when the Romisen RC-G2 (and other Romisen lights) were recommended budget lights.
That was a very long time ago.

I moved on from the Romisen over a decade ago and gave my Mom the last 2 working ones I had, she still has one on her bedstand and uses it. Anyway, this is a great forum you guys have here.

And this is mine RC-G2, bought it in 2008. Now it’s got SFT40 3000K and Convoy 5A driver. Stock forward clickie, AR lens. One of my oldest flashlights.

Nice. Not sure why the tail caps go bad. Do you know of any replacements that would work directly?

I’ve had 3 RC-G2s if I remember corretly, none had a problem with switch so I don’t have any solutions for it.
