1st, I was wondering if its possible to run a quad led flashlight where 2 admitters are say 219C’s and the other 2 can be cool white??

2nd, Can you run three SST-40 Led’s on a single triple setup?

Thanks in advance!

That is know as tint mixing and its not allowed here.

JK, as long as they have same footprint its allowed.

What the next guy says

Tint mixing is typically taken on among like emitters due to differences in Voltage requirements. The Nichia 219C is a low Vf emitter while emitters like the Cree XP-L HI are high Vf emitters. Mixing the two will work but one will limit the other’s performance to some degree. I put together a Sofirn C8F with one Nichia 219C, one Samsung LH351D and one XP-L HI… it works fine and the color balance is really nice.

The only thing required to run triple SST-40’s is a board that takes the XM footprint or meticulous placement of small individual MCPCB’s. But yes, it works and works well. Big draw on cells, big power output. I have 3 SST-40’s in a SupFire M6 that makes around 8,000 lumens. You can also get a quad board from LED4Power to use in a Q8.

I’d love to see that tri-brand (even different source country) LEDs… how would you describe its beam? Also, any downsides?

Shining the mixed emitter/tint C8F on my son’s wall from about 10’ distance…

And on the 1’ square white styrofoam ceiling tiles from about 4’ distance…

Quick snaps from my i8.

Edit: A look at the emitters in the Sofirn triple C8F reflector from my Canon 1Ds MkII with 100mm Macro Hybrid IS lens…

DB looks like tint mixing destroyed your sons room. I knew it was dangerous to cross the tints.

Yeah, and he’d just cleaned it too! :stuck_out_tongue:

So there you have it d_t_a, the downside is that it trashes a room within seconds of shining it in there.

Maybe a downside that there is some output loss because of the mixing, but other than that I’m very pleased with how this one worked out.

Now I have to read up on the C8f. Looks good

I have the C8TT made by Kiriba-ru. It’s still apart as I’m waiting for parts to come in except that I haven’t bought the Led’s yet.

Thanks, DB Custom for the pics!

YW

I was researching tint mixing for a project and found this old thread.

That is hands down the funniest comment I have read here.
I’m still chuckling.

Check out the LT1 lantern thread there’s a lot of mixing discussion going on there

Haha I just read it too
