As someone way late to the hotrod incan game, but who grew up with incan flashlights, I still find these products interesting because they have similar output to somewhat high end products back in the day. Most flashlights were far less bright. Anyway, I think it’s interesting to be able to recreate what some of the better flashlights of the day were like, without having to buy D-cell batteries or burn through some CR123’s, even though I don’t really have a use for them.
So here’s the runtime of two incan setups I have. One is a Solarforce P60 3.7v bulb from Kaidomain, in an E6 (the only 18650 P60 host I have). As an aside, it starts out at almost 120 lumens when put in the E6-21700 with a Molicel P45.
The other is a Maglite 2D, with a 6-cell bi-pin MagnumStar 2 bulb, and some D-cell adapters that put 3 AA’s in series (and two adapters are used giving 6 AA in series). On alkaline batteries it makes around 175 lumens or so due to the higher starting voltage, though I’m sure they drop much faster. This is actually an early LED Maglite, they were just incan models with an LED drop-in. I had incan Maglites but they all succumbed to battery leakage.
