I bought a few (some protected some not) of these Sanyo 16650 cells about two years ago from International Outdoor. I no longer needed the protected version and they would not fit in some of my lights. So I decided to remove the chip from the protected ones. One had a very obvious dent in the side. I’m hoping that it is not dangerous as it has been used for two years with the damage hidden by the black outer wrap.
The damage was done before the protection was added. there was no mark on the outer black wrap.
The one on the right is one of the non protected ones.
