Say NO to Ice Bucket Challenge

I didn’t mean to be different from others’ view about the Ice Bucket Challenge that’s now sweeping worldwide to raise money and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.
After all, charity is good.
But as this goes on, seems something has changed, it seems to become an event that is merely another opportunity for celebrities to show off and especially, how much water wasted, just check this picture, are you going crazy? This guy said he soaked in the ice water for 30 minutes, have you thought any of these people are suffering from a severe drought when you doing that?

If you want to donate then donate instead of dumping water and nominating another three water-wasting guy to waste water again.

Tell me what you guys’ thinking

+1

I see your point.

Yeah, it’s a stupid waste by this point. It got some exposure to the cause, and that’s great, but most of the videos I see on my FB wall don’t even mention the charity or ALS. They just dump the water on themselves and nominate someone else.

Just sharing another great passage, Why the Ice Bucket Challenge is bad for you

Since i was a kid i was told to reserve water and all other resource and use it wisely,so i will never accept this kind of thing ever.

This page has 2 videos. The video being reported on and the original down lower.

What have you got against raising money for a worthy cause.
The first image of a drought affected area in the OP has a lot water sitting around and it seems to be raining in the background, thats bad water management not a drought.
The second images shows nothing but people sloshing water around and wasting it, look at all the wet ground the buckets are sitting on, to me that says it is a lack of local, clean drinking water, not a drought.

In my opinion by putting the above link into this thread you have taken it from questionable taste, to outright political and arguementative, both against the CoC of this forum.

Cheers David

Totally agree with you!

Sorry about this, but this is true in China, not me to gain exposure or something. If you search He Nan 2014 drought on internet you will see more severe drought picture

I thought you was going to freeze a light in a bucket of ice…

Thank you so much for your nice words

I fully realize that China is in the grip of a severe drought and there is a lot of people suffering, my post was about your comments on a fund-raiser, not the drought, that link you posted is to a site that ridicules the way “westerners” raise money for different causes, nothing to do with the drought, hence my “outright political and arguementative” comment.
Out of over 3,000,000 image hits for China drought why did you pick those two, which as I said do not show the drought ??

Cheers David

Damn it, now this stupid “trend” of attention seekers infected my favourite forum too. I have nothing against fundraising, but this is getting retarded, and I’m willing to bet that 99% of the bucketly challenged give nothing to the ALS foundation. They just want the attention.

Nope this was started by someone against it.

Fully agree with you

Cheers David

Shit that bloke must be cold in the bucket of ice
Bet his winky went the size of an acorn

This fits right in here

I thought the original idea was to get people to donate to help find a cure. We should be hearing about the millions of dollars raised by “Stars” to help solve this, not about how they got wet and cold.

Who made them stars? They, themselves, are far out of proportion to reality and could help balance that by helping others, not showing off.

Every drop of water that was ever on this planet is still on this planet. How can you “waste” something that goes back into the cycle of the planet? I can give you 2 good reasons for shortages, and both are about mankind… water is pumped into the deep recesses of the earth to push oil out. We don’t get that back for a very long time, if ever. And the population explosion of the human race itself, Billions of our species that are composed of mostly water. I saw a Star Trek episode once when I was young where an alien species called the Trekkers “bags of mostly water”, when thought of in that context it’s easy to see that we are gallons of water apiece, multiplied by billions. The water is still here, just allocated or redirected such that it is becoming scarce.

A third reason? Have you ever made concrete? Where does all the water go when you make concrete? Is it locked in, somehow? Look around… You can put a wet concrete mix into a closed container, the concrete will harden and become a stone, but the water will not reappear. Suggesting that it is indeed locked into the mass of concrete. As animals that live off the planet, we are not allocating our resources well at all.

Help control the human population, get yourself spade or neutered today!

I am all for raising awareness and money for ALS.

That being said - I think its pathetic that our society has to come up with an ego-inflating, chain letter like stupid challenge to do so.

But I guess the end justifies the means… millions have been raised.
