SC13 Driver Removal

Has anybody managed to get the driver out if an SC13? A friend dropped his SC13Cu and asked if I could fix it. I could, if i could remove the driver.

Pic of what broke on the light. It only works when plugged in.

I don’t have an SC13 so can’t be sure. However I have removed similar drivers by:

  1. Place the light bezel up. Unscrew and remove the bezel.
  2. De solder the driver wires and remove the star.
  3. Insert a pointy thing with a fine tip through the driver wire holes at the front of the light. Either a thin metal spike or a round toothpick.
  4. Tap the back of your pointy thing with the side of a pliers or small hammer to push the driver out the bottom of the head.

The sc13 has a glued and press fit bezel :frowning:

Unfortunately it’s not that easy with the SC13. The bezel is very tightly press fit. It kinda looks like there’s a pill inside there. But I can’t get it to move at all.

I’m going to try some debonder on it too see if that helps.

Luckily it’s not glued. However, I kinda wish it were. It’s very tightly press fit in there. Pretty much wrecked the bezel getting is open. Luckily I’m testing on a $13 aluminum ones instead of the copper.

I didn’t manage to remove mine. I tried to when looking for ways to dedome the emitter but I learned somewhere here on blf it can be done through the hole where the rubber port cover is attached so I gave up with the bezel before destroying it. Though I seem to remember seeing somewhere here someone removing the bezel, completely destroying it, and it looked glued there. Maybe they switched things up between batches?

that grey rectangle part (another on the opposite)next to the red highlight is the driver retainer, you shall bend those outward with a long nose plier or a hard tweezer to allow the driver to slide out through the tube

Yes! This is the info I needed. Thank you. I’ll try that tonight on my aluminum SC13 since I already have it apart.

Thank you very much!
