SC31 Pro questions

I have just bought an SC31 Pro, pretty happy with it.

Is there a way to go from off immediately to turbo mode? I couldn’t find any way to do this by reading the instructions. Would it require a firmware update? If so can someone point me at some instructions? I saw there was new firmware posted on here, not sure if it’s all compatible.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to BLF!

In Anduril, double click from off will go to the ceiling. What you could do is increase the ceiling level to the max (turbo). It’s not something I’ve done myself, but it looks like:

  • Turn the flashlight on
  • Do 4 clicks to get to the ramp configuration
  • Wait for the second configuration “buzz” (the first configs the floor level, the second is the ceiling)
  • Click one time to set the ceiling to the highest level (150 of 150)

Thanks that worked

:+1: great!

BTW, thanks for asking this question. I knew the ramps could be configured, but I never took the time to check into it more. I’ve been wanting to increase the floor of the stepped modes so that the 2H action while in lockout would be brighter. And now that this was fresh in my mind, I went ahead and did that. Took me like 30 seconds and it’s lovely. Sometimes I just need a little push.

No worries  How much power do the aux lights draw on the low setting? I disabled them to avoid battery drain but not sure how much they actually use. Would be nice if they just came on for a few seconds when you press the button for any reason rather than being on all the time, seems a bit of a waste.

I haven’t measured them on the SC31 Pro. I can do that in a bit, but in low mode it’s really not much. Maybe 100uA or so? It’s low enough that if you just left the flashlight sitting on a shelf with those on, the battery would probably last a couple years without recharging. I keep all of my aux LEDs on that way I get a little enjoyment out of the flashlights even when I’m not using them.

I love how programmable this thing is. I had a Fenix PD35 before this, and that had a better beam focus and slightly higher build quality but was very limited in terms of functionality. Seems like Fenix are the iphones of flashlights and Anduril stuff is the android of them

Everyone should try limiting their stepped modes of anduril to just 1 mode or even 0 modes! My D4V2 ended up being just a 2 mode light. moonlight/turbo. Moonlight/Turbo. It was so silly that it became fun! :sunglasses:

Is there a reason that many flashlights dont allow you to jump from off to turbo?

Less chances of accidentally burning a whole in your pocket or table or wherever you clicked turbo without noticing it.

I know, I know, enthusiasts want more direct control for things like that, but we are not always the target market.

I think Anduril is an exceptionally nice piece of work! For me, I prefer the default. The double click to the top of the ramp with the ramp set to the default level is very bright and effectively works as a turbo only with more energy conservation. I use that shortcut frequently and like it. If I want turbo I don’t mind simply turning the light on before the double click. If one wants a double click to turbo it is easy to accomplish that instead! This is fantastic functionality!

At the moment, my favorite configuration is mostly default. I did set the floor to the lowest so that I can get something that passes for moonlight with a long press. (As I understand it the light would need different hardware to get a moonlight that would be more acceptable to me.) Currently I have a 6 step ramp setup and typically I will have the 3rd step set in memory. Turning the light on gives me a flashlight that is bright enough to do just about anything I need for many, many, hours of use. Quick and easy to ramp up from there if I need more light.

Initially I planned to turn off the aux LEDs. Decided that their utility far surpassed what amounts to a completely irrelevant amount of energy use. If I actually needed to conserve that energy not only would I disable them but I would physically unscrew the tail cap. Really appreciate the visual feedback for when the light is drawing more that 350 mA. The default off level is useful for finding the light / switch without being bright enough to be disturbing on the nightstand. The only other thing I changed from default is to have the tactical strobe stored for the double click hold.

This is what I currently like. The beauty is that if I change my mind or my use needs change I can change the light to match. It did take a couple of reads through the manual and a bit of experimenting but it really is not all that difficult and once it is set the way you want it the light is pretty straightforward and easy to operate.

I did have a brain fart once and I think in retrospect that what happened was that I inadvertently put it into muggle mode. Didn’t understand that at the time. Ended up re-setting it back to factory default and then set it back up the way I wanted it. This is the only hesitation I have about gifting the light to normal people. I think that at the default it is a great light and shouldn’t be to confusing for normal people to operate. However, if it were gifted in muggle mode expecting it to stay that way might be a stretch and I am not sure what would happen if a normal person did what I did an put the light into muggle or lockout mode inadvertently.

I agree… Anduril is what makes a light I want today. It is an intuitive UI for me and I find I am gifting off my other lights that do not have several key features of Anduril:

Double click to turbo (from anywhere- & NO blinkies… anywhere!)
click-hold for moon
ramping
single click on/off (no holding)

I can see the switch quickly on the SC31 Pro light in pitch black darkness. After pulling it’s cousin (IF25a) out last night, I was testing several lights. I walked out into a VERY dark field and was checking out my new C8+ and S21b Convoys with the new Osram emitters (and WOW! BTW- these are friggin’ THROWERS!).

Anyway, I had three lights in pockets (coat and pants) and it was 25 degrees. Between pulling each light out I couldn’t see the other lights switches. Some new sofirns aren’t making the cut lately as they don’t have Anduril (and if they have a side switch— it doesn’t illuminate until AFTER turning it on- then they show battery status for 5 sec or so). BUT the IF25a was a no brainer- pulled it out, easily saw the green switch, no issue.

As I am using the Convoys on rifles, I don’t want to see any aux light- just full ON when I hit the remote pressure switch. But for a handheld light I want to SEE the side switch- I’d even settle for when I turn the tail charging the light— to have the side light come on if just for a short time-frame; long enough to see the switch and get my thumb on it.

This is where the washer trick shines. You can find the switch by feel alone. I was out last night with gloves on. Still can operate the button fine. I was using the SC26 and SP33.

There are lights that are that strong? :O

I am still a beginner flashaholic so this is a surprise.. :D

What is the washer trick?? Finding the side switch after removing from a pocket is my biggest issue with these style of lights.

I add a nice stainless or brass washer as in raised ring . The edges of the washer just naturally attract your finger when holding the light. Try it. If you don’t like it, pull it off, no biggy. Bought 2 variety packs of washers at Harbor Freight. All different sizes. A tube of E6800 for glue. Happy as a pig in s@#t.
