I recently bought the SC31 Pro 5000k everyone was talking about. ’’Twas still daylight when it was delivered outside my door so I decided to take a look in a dark place: the crawl space. Upon opening up the crawl space door, I was greeted by a spewing waterline from my water heater. Thankfully it had not been leaking long, but if I had not purchased the SC31 pro who knows how long that leak would have gone on for and caused hundreds of dollars of damage.
With that said, I’m still returning the SC31 Pro. Despite its noble service that it provided through a fateful string of seemingly random events, it has a feature/flaw I can’t ignore: the high frequency whine at the top of the ramp. Nevermind that its ~“2,000” lumens (on turbo) are not much visually brighter than the ~1,000 lumens my SP31 v2.0– I expected that.
Love the usb-c, size, Anduril, and tint of the SST40 5000k is so much better than SST20. 5000k. Maybe I’ll buy one when I’m older and can’t hear the high frequency whine.
You’re right. I didn’t clarify: I am aware I must double click while on to get turbo. Visually there’s just not a huge difference between 1,000 and 2,000 lumens (or 1526 lumens per Zeroair). I could not hear the whine on turbo—only around the ramp ceiling.
OK, just guessing. Too bad you can hear this whine. I have heard some do, some don’t. As far as turbo not being much brighter, maybe a better cell may help with this?
Nice save! Shame it’ll be returned, deserves to be displayed above your fireplace to be admired as hero of the hour. Maybe in a ‘Break glass in case of (another) emergency’ style box
Sounds a bit like: Der Mohr hat seine Schuldigkeit getan, Der Mohr kann gehen. (Friedrich Schiller).
After having done a terrific job, and maybe even saving your bootie, he/she is tossed to the curb?
You should treat it like your BFF, with free batteries as long as he/she lives
I got hearing like a bat, but none of my lights has any HF whine. Some summer nights, these late-night HF “chirps” could drive me batty, someone suggested to me it might actually be bats(!).
That said, might be a one-off glitch. Inductor might be loose, letting the windings “whine” with the current pulses, who knows.
Definitely need a Samsung 30Q to reach max output. Sofirn’s cells are 10A with a lot of voltage drop with a load of approx 7A for the SST40. This model uses a fet which performs better using a much higher current cell.
What are they using for the regulated modes? My stock Convoy S2+ drivers, from a few years back, would have an audible whine. That was usually on the middle mode, IIRC - they’ve all been swapped for a while now.
Man, that would piss me right off. I can still hear past 16kHz…
