Sc31 Pro Tir

Howdo all, been lurking here a bit so thought it was about time I got off my butt and registered.
Bit of a daft question but I managed to grab an Sc31 pro in a sale and thought I’d clank one of Simons 5050 pebbled Tir’s in it.

I’ve removed the original clear plastic bezel ring, glass, oring, reflector and centering gasket so was wondering with the tir should I

1:leave the plastic bezel ring in then then a 1mm oring between the tir and plastic bezel.

2: leave the plastic bezel ring out and put the 1mm oring on top of the tir.

Thought I’d ask the experts before I potentially tried it the wrong way and knackered it up by screwing it down too tight.

I’ve now confused myself. I need a cuppa and a lie down.

Edit: tried it with just the oring but must still be slightly too deep as it’s not screwing down all the way but seems ok for now and it’s stopped the tir being slightly rattly with none in at all.

Im sitting here looking at a SC31 pro, and still can’t make heads or tails of that(confused me too lol). I think I’d need a picture…

Not that I should be trying to answer you, I’m totally new to modding, but this just sounds fun, I might want to try it with mine…

What are you doing to take up the extra space?
Ie, the TIR has to be shorter than the reflector, right?

1 Thank

The tir is deeper and it replaces the reflector and the glass. They have four little legs on the bottom which fit nicely round the emitter once you remove the little gasket from around the led. I’ve clanked an oring between the bezel and the tir just for now and it seems tight enough. Can’t tighten it down all the way though as I might run the risk of stressing the board so this oring might be a bit too deep even though I’m sure it was a narrower one. I could always shave a bit off the bottom of the tir or the rim or try and find an even narrower oring as without one in it screws all the way down but rattles slightly so mustn’t be far off flush but it seems good enough for now.

I’m a new user so can only embed one pic per reply so I’ll add another one to a reply.

And a pic of the tir alongside the reflector. The hardest part was getting the bezel unscrewed I’m sure they use sorcery or the strongest glue known to man.

And finally. Might make a bit more sense than my usual shenanigans of trying to explain things. This is the way the tir fits over the emitter then the bezel screws directly over it. I nabbed a pack of different degree beaded ones from Simon at Convoy to see which one I’d prefer. Can’t go wrong for a couple of quid for the pack just to see if you like them.

Carlo 20mm optics fit just fine if you want something that fits perfect. You have to shave off a little tab but they work just as stock. If you are in the US, LED Supply has them for very cheap.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m in the UK unfortunately. I’ll order some 1mm orings from Convoy to give them a whirl. Failing that I’ve got a few spares so could try shaving one down.

2 Thanks

If I remember correctly I used a S2+ 1mm oring on mine.

You do have to be careful. The right technique can help. I find it works to hold the light in one hand and use that hand’s thumb to push down on the TIR to help keep it from spinning. Use the other hand to tighten down the bezel.

Spot on thank you, I’ll get some ordered. I thought the spares I had were from an s2 but I’ve clanked them into my verniers and they’re 1.5. I’ve chucked the clear ring back in instead of an oring and it’s near enough perfect so the 1mm will be ideal.

Yeah that’s what I was nervous of twisting the emitter off. Your way sounds much better than me trying to keep everything lined up by willing it not to turn. Thanks for the heads up much appreciated.

Just a quick thank you to you all for the help and advice. I’m off to order some correct orings and we’ll see what else ends up in the basket. Just need to figure out which one of the 20,38 and 60 degree beads I like the most but so far I’m loving the tir beam compared to standard.

Have a cracking day.

Have a nice time here, DaleC!
