Can anyone tell me what screws they use to hold mcpcb’s to pills’s? I am currently using 4-40’s, because I have access to them at work, but they’re just to big. Any help will be much appreciated!
Best way to get suitable screws for holding stars to pills is to disassemble computer hard disk drives. Each drive will probably net you 20+ suitable screws.
This can be pretty cheap. If you have an old computer or two laying around, you should be set.
Alternatively, you can probably find suitable screws on Ebay, but I’m not sure what size to look for.
Probably metric not 4/40.
I like the hard drive idea, but what about tapping the holes? Need to know the thread.
The pill you can get through fasttech have screws with them that work well, but i have no clue what size they are.
Most on mine have been 2.5mm
I have found that most of the pre-drilled holes are threaded for M2.5 screws. You can find them cheap on eBay if you search for M2.5 laptop screws. I believe most of mine are 4 mm long.
The screw is out of a convoy C8.
Yes, M2.5 in a few of mine.
I ordered some from ebay thinking I wouldn’t have any that small, I then found some in my storage box. I tend to keep small screws from computer’s rather than throw them away, they’ve probably been there for year’s.
It’s always useful to magnetise a screwdriver so you can hold the screw on the end when screwing it in.
